Putting the final touches on the racecar. What do we like for hood latches?

Those flush-mounted AeroCatch deals seem very popular. But they're pretty big/ugly. More important, looks like they'll be a PITA for me to install.

I'm thinking old-fashioned muscle car style pins should be easier to install and might even look less conspicuous

Thoughts?

Ive made my own with allthread...

Mr gasket hoodpins are cheap and decent. I prefer that style over most others.

The simple ones are a hitch pin with a cable to keep it from getting lost. What is a little nicer, is the hitch pin secured on a little slider, which secures it to the hood.

Never used them but the quik-latch system looks pretty good to me. They have several colors and sizes available to suit your application. http://www.quik-latch.com

Is it a race car that might have the hood visit something firm occasionally? If so, go with the Mr gasket ones, or a homemade version. Any cool looking ones with captured pins are a huge PITA when they get bent a bit.

these are what we use on the rally car as well. They've held up great and no losing pins....

Or get the exact same ones on ebay for like $10 without the Sparco logo...

I have these on my foxbody because I'm an idiot who was in a hurry and forgot to put the pins back in one time:( You do not forget with these. I got mine from ebay in black.

Those are $7.08 a pair shipped on ebay right now.

I made mine out of 1/2" bolts.

I put these on Subarust one Sunday morning after the hood release broken on me the second time. Even I can do it. Once I found a decent spot on the radiator support to mount the threaded bit, it was easy peasy.

Came here to recommend AeroCatch. Not only are they aerodynamically better than any kind of traditional hood pins, but IMO much easier on the eyes as well.

My problem with AeroCatch is the installation. Traditional hood pins = drill a hole. AeroCatch installation seems much more involved and easier for me to berkeley up.

Personally, I grew up in the 70's and 80's when every muscle car had hood pins with cables so therefore I cannot stand the look. I think the black Aerocatch on your black hood would be pretty well hidden and therefore better looking.

I looked at the aerocatch stuff. Looked at my wallet. Got over the aerocatch stuff immediately.
