So I've been helping a buddy of mine with his most ambitious project which is to stuff an EG33 into his 850 Coupe. The engine was pulled from a good running SVX at the Pull-A-Part, and he pulled some of the harness and ECU. I went back for the rest of the harness and he pulled the bellhousing and starter.

I found some info online regarding 1992 and 1997 SVXs, does anyone know of any year over year differences? The car we pulled the goodies out of was a 95.

I'll try and take some pictures next time I'm over there but it could be a week or more...

not sure on what an EG33 is.. but if it is a heavy engine, I wouldn't do it. The 850 can be a twitchy car to drive with a hotted up 850 engine in it.. I know the 124 engine will fit, but it makes them very rear heavy.

The only difference happened in 96, 97 when they changed some emissions things for the ODB2 ECU.

A 95 will be identical to a 92.

Subaru flat-six.

That's what I said, at first I thought he said he brought home an EJ22 when he said he pulled the motor out of a Subaru, then he said it was an SVX, that got my attention . We're also putting a BMW straight six in his TR6, most likely MS + Boost

Excellent to know, I wasn't even thinking of that, and I should know better.

Oh he fully knows how stupid it's going to be, but this car is a rescue project as much as it is a mod job so it's going to be his 'hot rod'

Mount it in the middle of the car. That is the only way I can see it being driveable.

The 850's engine weighs about 150lbs complete with generator and everything. With that little mass back there it is still quite rear biased weight wise. I imagine lots of wheelies with a scooby six back there.

The coupe at least has some room for rear tires, I fit 195/50/15's in the back and it looked like there would be room for another 20mm or so.

With how few 850 coupes are left, and the likely highly undriveable (or unfinished) result of this project, it seems like a waste of a rare car, unless it is completely rusted out to the point it wouldnt ever be able to be restored with any reasonable amount of effort.

Like Hocrest said, there was only one motor for all years of the SVXii.

I think there was also no rev limiter on the '92 (only).

Has he taken any measurements? The EG33 is 33" wide, plus additional space to pull the plugs. It's a totally awesome engine, but has a lot of trouble fitting into most cars because of the width. It won't fit between the frame rails of most cars (it's a flat 6, meaning there is no "V" configuration at the bottom to fit between the rails- it's just as wide at the bottom as it is at the top).

What trans? All Suby transmissions of that era will bolt to it, but some will be tough to work with.

230 hp. Should be a hoot.

I agree with Travis.. I looked for years for a decent 850 coupe.. and found none. I am unsure I could kill one like that

Start off with tube chasis and hang rusted out POS 850 body on to it. Please don't cut up a nice one. hech go back grab the subaru and cut the floor pan to fit the 850.

Calm down everyone it's not that nice, and I'm not debating the merits of restoring it, it's not my car, it has enough rust that the effort required will most likely make it a tube chasis (whole or part) with alot of patch work to the body (whole bottom is mostly rotted out) on it.

I'm not sure which trans he has in mind yet, he thought about the SVX trans (front) but when we went back for the bellhousing the ring gear was munched, hard. Not that it isn't fixable but I think he wants the motor as far back as possible.

We took measurements and it's got 3" of clearance. I'm not saying it'll work yet, but it's promising.

I basically got roped into helping him by doing wiring since he won't touch it and he knew I did MS work on the XR4, in exchange I'll be getting paid in part for my Fiat.
