This month’s mag made me laugh. In the UTCC report they felt it necessary to insert the phrase ‘yes, it’s AWD’ when talking about the DSM, just in case the average reader wouldn’t know this fact

AWD TSI's are getting pretty rare. I almost never see them in traffic anymore...sad because there were 2 guys that had them with low miles at my high school.
I would wager a guess that most of them are in some sort of project stage, hidden within someone's garage.
Explaining that an AWD, turbocharged sports coupe came from Eagle and Plymouth will be like explaining the merits of the cassette tape. Huh?

That's my point, it should be self evident
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all enthusiasts are created geeks, that they are endowed by their petrolheadedness with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Miata’s, E30’s and the pursuit of ultra dorkiness.--That to secure these rights, forums are instituted among dorks, deriving their just powers from the consent of the readership. etc etc
Am I going to hell yet.

my 90 Laser turbo was fwd. That was a great car. I totalled it with 180k on it and it was on the original clutch.

I wasn't aware DSM's were capable of progressing beyond the project (read: broken) stage....

+1.......I never thought that was possible. Since I haven't gotten to use this in awhile, I'll just leave this here.....

Yeah, I found that out the hard way. I was test driving a customers car and was driving it in an uh, spirited manner. I was coming around a cul de sac and just punched it assuming it was AWD. The front tires lost their battle and I went on a little unintended off-roading excursion.

You were railing around a cul de sac in someone else's car and drove through someone's yard? You sure you weren't in an IROC?

The article was penned by two of the more (most?) junior members of the GRM staff.
I noted several other instances of 'crazy young'n talk.'
"Carb that looks big enough to be bolted to a tractor trailer"
Anyone else catch the glaring error on page 72?

280-horsepower turbocharged engine in reference to the picture of the old skyline?
Yeah, the side draft carbs with open trumpets and something about a turbo in the text, noticed that.

Beat me to it. In the US I thought only the GSX trim of the Eclipse was AWD and the Talon had an AWD designation and it was only available until the second generation. The rest were FWD until they killed the car.
I usually only see the second gen Eclipse on the road when there's a flatbed involved anymore.
It's been DSM Week here in Indy for the last two weeks.
I was just talking to my buddy at the beginning of the month about how we never see DSMs anymore, when you used to not be able to walk out your front door without tripping over an eleventybajillionawhp DSM.
Then all of a sudden i've seen them EVERYWHERE.

I dunno, I think that the DSM's are barely in like the top 20 of wimpiest musclecars.

In my defense (I know, there's not any defense for hoonage in a customers car) I wasn't on a residential street. It was part of our test drive route so VERY little traffic and nothing to hit except a tree or two 35 yards off the street. What shocks me is that I hopped the curb at a pretty nasty angle and didn't bend the paper mache rims.

The Talon was available in AWD all years right up till it's death. The AWD was available only with the TSi trim, but not all TSi's were AWD though.

LMAO!!!

The first gen of Talon definitely was available in Turbo AWD, I had two of them. The rockers had a decal that said "TSi AWD" and they were mechanically identical to the Eclipse GSX. One of the very, very short list of past cars I miss. I don't know about the Laser though, they did funny things with Plymouth...
