A guy at work turned me on to The Race of Gentlemen. Pre-1936 cars, 1/8th mile, beach drag race in (my case) Wildwood, NJ.

I found a 1929 Model A Special for sale locally that is "half done". Yard runs and drives.

My buddy has been trying for 10 years to get down there for this and had tickets et. al. this year to do it and got the 'Vid 2 days before he was supposed to go. He is all about old Fords and has many projects.

From his thread about his Dad this quote owns my soul right now:

Die With Memories Not Dreams.

I'd paint that on the back of this car:

It's $3k.

How much do memories cost?

Your buddy didn't miss much this year, the event was hurricaned out. I caught a little of the pre-events and it looks like a full TROG would be as much fun as it seems.

I'd be all over that car in a NY minute.

In reply to paddygarcia :

Yeah, we saw that. He's been trying forever to get there.

Maybe together we can get there and actually race.

Ive gone a few times when I lived up that way, its a good time for sure.  As to the car, for that price I'd buy it just because, but if you are wanting to be TROG bound with it then check the rules and make sure its eligible, they have (or at least had) some pretty strict requirements but I think they've loosened up in recent years.

(and seriously, if you decide to pass on that car shoot me a message, it is a memory I wouldnt mind making) :)

If that was local I'd probably have bought that 3 times already

It looks like a blast. I was planning to go this year but it was a rainout. If you get it and want help down there I'd love to make the trip.

If I only had a place to put it it'd be mine. Here is the rest of the story.

preach, belly full of IPA, shows mrs. preach some T.R.O.G. videos on youtube. Mrs. digs it and says: "Neat, that would be fun." preach slowly goes to CL and types in "1929" having known it was there. Mrs. says: "damn that thing is sketchy. It's also perfect."

preach texts buddy and tries to talk him into it. He states that he will go and tow it down there no problems. He'll even help me get it going as he is pre-war knowledgeable and I am not. I say we both enter and race it, he says nope, I want to do it in my A truck. Neither of us have room to store it.

A berkeleying loss for us both.

Still scheming but it's not looking good as of right now.

IIUC, it's more than just rules (eg, no period incorrect SBC), but your entry is judged to be worthy of entry by the event powers that be, based on what they want in the event
