I'm working on pulling the motor out of my '91 Geo Tracker, my first attempt at yanking an engine. Still trying to make sure I know exactly what I do and don't need to remove/disconnect. But obviously I need to disconnect the exhaust. Do you typically disconnect the manifold at the engine, or at the other end of the manifold (where it meets the rest of the exhaust)?

The exhaust... It depends.

If you can do it at the collector it's a lot less work to replace the seal.

Just snatched the transmission out of one at the U-Pull-It. I would recommend where the cast manifold meets the steel piping. 3 or 4 bolts. Enjoy, I have a real soft spot for early US Suzukis.

You apparently give the Tracker too much credit...they never had enough horsepower to do that.

I was hoping to unbolt it at the collector, so I think I'll go that route.

just keep unbolting stuff until the engine comes out- it's easy to forget trans dust shields and torque converter bolts, and there always seems to be a ground wire or two that you don't see until you have it lifted a foot off the mounts and you can't get your hand in between the firewall and back of the cylinder head to unhook it..

They have enough power to do this though...

In many cars you can leave the manifolds on when removing the engine. I bet you have room to do that on the tracker.

You'll need to log in to post.
