LINK

I don't pretend to be an artist, or to posses any artistic ability. Let's get that out of the way.
My buddy is going ga-ga over the car in the above link. It does NOTHING for me. It looks like they took character lines from a late '60's mustant, Camaro, and Charger/Challenger and melded them into one unit. Then purchased the powertrain and are charging 1/4 million for it. If you're going to make a car, I understand that you may not have the budget to EPA certify a powertrain, but why not actually style your car? I look at that and see the automotive equivalent of Ice Ice Baby. Vanilla sampled one of the greats and called it his own. These guys are sampling three of the greats and calling it their own.
Some will say 'there's a market for it, so what?' Yes, there's a market for it, that's why Ford, GM, and Fiat/Dodge/Chrysler/whoevertheyarethisweek sell their own retro cars. How a car is styled is the biggest way a manufacturer can express themselves in the market. To see a company just copy what's out there seems cheap.

I want to call myself an author. Then I'll take one part Hitchcock, one part King, throw in some Egan automotive references.

Not really expecting anything from this thread, just venting to other automotive folks that I think will understand.

Good for them!

Quite a job where you can make a car that sold in the millions 50 years ago, and sell a clone of it for 1/4 million.

But it's other people's money.

Yeah, I hope they can sell lots of them. I'd just never drop money on one. Not that I'm the target market though.

I like 'em. Hell, every car company copies something/someone. The Koreans used to do it all the time, now the JApanese are copying the Koreans.... so who cares? Looks like it's be fun as hell to drive though

I see so much '67/'68 Mustang Fastback in that that I'm quite surprised that FoMoCo's lawyer's aren't already delivering a cease and desist.

As for the looks, its OK I guess, but I'd much rather have the real thing(s), and at that price you easily could.

Also it sort of reminds me of how in movies and TV they will sometimes de-badge or slightly disguise a car , but its still obvious what it is supposed to be.

Well, you can be like them- take a current 911, remove the body, make a combination of 356, early 911, and Bug as the retro, and sell it for $200k. That will sell, too.

One of my friends posted that on FB a few weeks ago. I poo'd on it about the same as you did and they jumped all over me.

I can appreciate a custom car, but this one is hard to understand. More so than the insanely expensive Singer 911's.

I kept watching and watching thinking it was some kind of funny gotcha-video and based on the '67-'68 Mustang like Andy is saying...

Didn't even sound that good, but might have been the crappy sound editing (or just me).

Equus? I expected this thread to be Bobzilla telling us how much better Hyundai is than Honda. I would imagine they will be hearing from Hyundais lawyers soon.

If you want a really fast Mustang, why not save a massive amount of money and buy a GT500?

That's what I was thinking. But I guess this is turnkey and includes a lot of expensive interior fittings and materials. If I was building one I'd do the Agent 47 thing and make it bare bones inside, but not everybody is into that.

I, too, came here expecting a Hyundai Luxury car. lol
I'm pretty ambivalent about it, but I can say I would much rather build a badass 67 than spend that kinda on a fake one

looks like it's based on one of the 67(?) Mustang body shells with fugly sheetmetal and various oem and aftermarket drivetrain and suspension parts bolted to it... you could probably duplicate it with the exact same parts (except for the specific fugly stuff they make for it to make it their own) for way under half the money.

i have to wonder if they use those cheap Equus gauges in it?

every car is built for people that don't build cars... doesn't mean that this particular one isn't horrible.

I always feel that these cars were designed off of car designs from the Grand Theft Auto series of games

In reply to alfadriver:

I just read something yesterday that made me think. The guy said something like "I can spend 10 or 20 years building my car, or I can buy one now, pay for it over 10 or 20 years and enjoy it the entire time.".
When I was young I enjoyed working on cars as much as driving them. I no longer enjoy working on them that much, but I still love driving them. And I have the ability and knowledge to work on my own cars. Many people don't, but they still love cars. Either way, I see nothing wrong with someone paying somebody to build a car for them if their love is in the driving or aesthetics of cars, and not working on them.

Looks to me like someone took a Dynacorn Mustang shell and built a tube chassis to use C6 Corvette suspension and transaxle.

Yeah, not my cup of tea....but then, I think all the really good looking cars were built in the 1930s.

The nice thing about GRMers.....if you don't like that car's styling, you can make one that you do like. If you think that car looked neat, but it was a bit anemic, you can fix it. If you don't think your car has enough downforce, you can stick a tank blower onto it to suck it down onto the asphalt.
