I have an Essex V6 engine and trans (Capri/TVR/ Marcos/etc.) coming in a short while and need a bit of help with the distributor. The seller didn't get the electronics to accompany the distributor and I was hoping that there might be a way or re-wiring things, or fabricating a set-up or possibly locating a points style or aftermarket distributor for the engine that I could then install a Pertronix unit into. I believe that the engine is a 1979 model, but not sure.
I know that there are ways around the distributor/electronics wiring on the early 80's Mustang 302 engines, maybe there's a similar procedure for the V6 ignition?
Any help at all here would be much appreciated.
Thanks !

It may or may not be well documented, but I doubt making it work will be hard. While I'm not familiar with how ford did it, most of those early electric ignition systems were basically just a box taking the (2 wire, regardless of cylinder count) pickup pulses from the distributor and firing the coil appropriately, maybe with some dwell control from the EFI computer if equipped. Advance is still mechanical/vacuum, no?
I think so too, but I don't remember the set-up. It involved using a GM HEI module from inside the GM distributor re-wired outside the Ford distributor, but it only worked for the early Motorcraft distributors, not the later ones with the modules fastened to the side.
Or SOMETHING along those lines . . . kinda lost here, need some solid help.
