Just leaving through the new SCCA Sportscar mag (with a whopping 5 pages) devoted to RX nationals (didn't AX nats get about 200 pages, lol?). O/T but anyhow, just curious - 7 or 8 cars were listed in MR class there; was that all the cars present in the class, or did they just list a certain number?
Only wondering because we have 10-12 MR cars running at the local level, so a bit surprised to see such a low number at nats (what was the total car cap for the event?).
That's all there was, although there were a couple shared cars.
Additionally there were a couple PR cars that were bumped to MR because of steering wheel issues. (Meaning, you can't change steering wheels in Prepared but they didn't know that)

ah, so used to using DLB I didn't even think to look at MSR, Thanks.
Surprised you didn't go, Shawn. Looks like a Mazda love-fest :)
The Corolla and......I can't remember who else should really have been in P. You guys need to rent a car hauler and come to Nebraska next year. I'll be there in MR and the Corolla driver is planning on being there in an MR2 in MR as well. We could make MR the biggest class if we try.

To many BMW's out there.
That and the 18 hour drive (each way) and about $900 in gas to get my tow beast out there and back.
In reply to mazdeuce:
Doubtful for us (the e30 guys at least, can't speak for Shawn). The 4 most competitive e30 drivers (in PR and MR) including me all run Chumpcar together as well, and we're trying to run a pretty heavy schedule (in another e30, not surprisingly). I will probably be towing an e30 to Atlanta in Feb at very least, and that's already looking to be a long-ass drive. Going all the way to Oklahoma for rallycross is probably not very good on my cost-benefit ratio.
I can handle a 600-mile drive for a full weekend of wheel-to-wheel on the track. I love rallycross, but not enough for a 1400-mile haul for 10 runs, honestly.
Will definitly try to make the SE regionals in 2014, however. Was going to go last year but it conflicted with our first Lemons race (which was an hour from home).
I'm betting Chris Nonack will go to nationals next year if he can find a car that he can't break. He and Shawn are probably the fastest RWD drivers in this region anyhow (no offense to Roberto or Myself, our 1-2 finish in MR this year notwithstanding). I still need to work on winning my own damn local class.

I have every intention of trailering my MR2 out there next year. (Trailer because I don't trust it more than 2hr away, let alone 12-14hrs)

A certain black RX-7 will be there next year. You can bet on it.
A certain red Miata will be there next year with better suspension and more power.

I'm planning on towing out next year. I also said that this year and the year before...
Write up of the event from Paul Costas in the Supra:

I actually am going to trailer. Mod cars and 1000 mile drives don't sound like much fun. The idea is that at least one of us from Texas will be trailering an otherwise street legal car which leaves the possibility to tow home one of the driven cars if someone frags a transmission or something.

It's not really that bad. Earplugs are your friend.
But I'm going to be the guy with the trailer, so hopefully I won't need earplugs. .
I would like to see a 10 car MR field next year though. I drove the Corolla in the last event and I'm hooked. I understand what you guys have been incessantly talking about, and you're right.

I drove ~250 miles home this weekend with only 3rd and 4th. (And today's lesson is IF YOU HAVE A CLUTCH DISENGAGEMENT ISSUE, FIX IT)
wow, I didn't realize that was a MKIV Supra. Figured a MK2 or MK3......
I"m gonna have to get more power before I go to nationals, I think. Those look like more power courses than the tight technical stuff my car is set up for.

When I saw it I was all OMG THAT'S KOSMIDES' OLD CAR !!!1 Reminded me of when I was fresh out of high school and SCC covered US stage rally. And when SCC was a magazine.
2nd and 4th in SA was in a 2.5RS Subaru. An automatic. Power schmower you still have to drive the thing.

I won't be in MR, but I'll be towing my car out next year. I've already booked my hotel room :)

True. Really the 2 least-powerful cars in MR locally are leading the season standings (my 1.8 M42 and an RX7). But some courses cater to the torquey cars more than others.
And more power can never really hurt up to a point. I just like my 50-50 weight balance too much to swap in a sixer. If I tow to nationals, I'll take about 200lbs of stuff off the car that makes it street legal, which is just as good.
In reply to irish44j:
And you should tow to nationals. You really should. We need a data point for the east coast contingent. I spent the whole weekend lobbying for a move farther east for the event.
I'm not convinced that lighter is better or that more power is better.
I'm also not convinced that towing is a good option. I did that the first year. It sucked. The truck got less than half of the fuel economy that the car being towed would have got, and the worst part? 28 hours sitting in a TRUCK. Berk that noise.

moot point for me. I'm definitely not going/towing to nationals in 2014, towing or not. Between several Chump races (including Atlanta and VIR), whole local season, SE regionals, a wedding in Florida, and a class reunion in Vegas.....my travel/fun budget is in the red before the year has even started.
I probably won't go to nationals anytime in the near future until it is moved to this side of the Mississippi. I'd like to see how I stack up, but there's a limit to what distance is worth it. And I'm still not a fast enough driver. I just have a well-set-up car. Getting beaten by 2 seconds a run by someone driving your car for the first time tells you "you can build a car, but you don't drive fast enough."
If Chris Nonack goes next year (in whatever car he's in, but it will be RWD), you'll get a good datapoint with him being one of the fastest RWD guys in the mid-Atlantic. Well, until his car breaks. Whatever car it is.

I would say lighter is better for rallycross when most of that weight is the bumpers, lights, and other things on the longitudinal extremities. Weight between the wheels is less a concern.
That said, I think lighter is better overall provided the suspension can keep the car on the ground as much as possible. And definitely if the event is on a hard-packed surface vice mud. Mud events I usually toss my 2 rally tire spares into the trunk before runs.
Definitely wouldn't drive the e30 (with the tire trailer) for 1500 miles, getting 25ish MPG on Premium gas. I much prefer getting 17mpg on regular, towing with my 4Runner and cruising in comfort and silence at 80mph with the car in the rearview and a good audio system :) Maybe when I was 25. I'm almost 40 now and like my comfort on distance trips :)
