cars that have locked ECUs and require you to mail the E36 M3 or do some insane trickery to get past the lock. Like the current Abarth 500 which fits the 2nd category.

after owning a wrx and cars with a lot of easy aftermarket ecu tuning options i wont touch a car like that.

Too many good cars out there with lots of options. EuroE36 M3 where everything is locked down and there is no solutions or the solutions are E36 M3ty and half-assed = nothx.

Also once I considered buying a 128i and doing a mild NA build with cams,etc, thinking i could make a new E36 M3 (actual e36 m3 not the swear filter) and then realized there is ZERO aftermarket for it.

My Leaf is a lease, which would be enough. Also, it's an electric car. I don't know enough boot dem lectruns to mess with em.

Automatics tend to morph into manuals in my garage... Rust is the stopper for me. Never owed a car new enough to worry about nanny controls, but that day will arrive at some point I'm sure.

Curious as to the year and model. I read the same thing about my 09 Civic Si and I was really turned off. I stumbled across a set of Evo wheels and tires and put them on for track duty. No TPMS sensors and I can turn off/On TC/VSA at will. A big rear swaybar means there are plenty of chances to test that it is off. It may be worth a try if you haven't already. It saved me buying a set of TPMS sensors.

I'm talking about my 2013 Si. I had an 10 Si that you could turn VSA on/off at will no matter what. Honda went full DURRRR on this model though. Hence a new facelift for each model year so far. Still a great DD/commuter, quality interior, for a great price. K20 Sis are just holding their value too well right now otherwise I would pick one up for tracking.

Having done a 2.0 SOHC -> 2.4 DOHC swap on my wife's Neon completely cured me of the urge to touch anything other than consumables and OEM replacements on her TSX.

So you bought a 2.4 dohc car and now you dont want to do a 2.4 dohc swap on it?

Ah, the good old days. They weren't, were they? That chassis was noodly even when everything was perfect. I swear that is why the bumpers were always such a loose fit. There's a company (Fat Man?) that makes a front subframe that - shock, horror! - actually ties in to the top of the firewall instead of cantilevering the whole front end off of four bushings in the tub's floor. One of those "why didn't someone think of this thirty years ago??" kind of ideas.
