A friend just posted a video compilation from our early days of autocross--this was shot at Atlanta's Lakewood Fairgrounds in 1993. This is also back before my Sentra SE-R was old school:

Yes, I was the #8 Sentra. Those were used wheels with R-comps. Since the wheels were wider than stock, eventually I moved the R-comps the stock wheels and used the aftermarket wheels on the street. Remember, this is back when a decent 15x7-inch wheel cost $250. I forget what I paid for those 14s, but at the time they were a deal.

They weren't five-spokers. Pretty sure it was six spokes--three black and three silver. And they look chrome in the video. They were more polished in real life.
And remember, this is before craigslist, eBay Motors, etc. How did you find used wheels back then? You put out the word and hope someone answered. Not sure where those wheels wound up, either.
I can't remember the brand of those wheels, though--probably something like Prime, Elite or Ultra. They might not have even come with center caps.
Yeah 1993 is not old. I have Super 8MM film of some friends auto crossing back in the 70's! I even have some from in the car. It was a demo run and not timed and my friend hand held the camera. He got the dash, the roof, the door, and once in a while something out the windshield. LOL!
Great video! So many fox body Mustangs and F bodies. I'm going to burn all my old autocross videos when I visit the parental units on Boxing Day.
Cool. Back when a Spitfire was in CSP... oh how the mighty have fallen.
I saddens me to think that only pure ignorance prevented me from autocrossing my Integra back in the late 90's.

Exactly. Do they still autocross at Lakewood? If not, that's a shame as it was a great lot--big plus some elevation changes. We paddocked in a separate lot. For a while, this was also home to the NOPI Nationals. (And more recently, a year or so ago we saw Maiden there.)
20 years ago... I might have upgraded to my '84 GTI at that point. Or it might still have been the bone-stock '80 Rabbit... I don't think any footage exists.
In car footage has certainly improved since then
I love watching old autocross footage like this. thanks for sharing!
Finally got it to work- at work!
Cool footage, thank you for the share! Gotta love the old VHS stuff.
93 was my first year of college. I was deep into the SCCA club scene, working every race I could.
