So my beloved sister texts me a bit ago. She wants something that will comfortably to 5,000 lbs and hold her kids and maybe her kids' friends.
Easy, buy a Suburban.
No, they're hideous.
Here is where the sigh starts. "Why?" ""They just are."
"But it would do everything you want, but a cheap one and park it out back and drive it twice a month." Sister is a vet so money isn't really a problem. She could easily drop $7,000-$9,000 on a third vehicle for occasional use.
Nope. Not interested. Her daily is a RX400h and her husband drives a Dodge 3/4 ton diesel. I think I have her sold on a third/occasional vehicle instead of a new DD that she has to make do everything.
So what does the hive say? What should she get? I still say singleslammers 2003 Suburban would be perfect but other than Chevy goodness, what would you choose?
I suspect she already knows what she wants, and she's just waiting for you to say it.

Lots of comments on Ford Flex a month or so ago. Most of them positive.

My parents had a flex, it was pretty nice. They have a suburban now though and are very happy
Memorise this line and use it whenever dealing with a female member of your family.
Because it's the cold hard truth:
"You don't want to hear my opinion, you want to hear YOUR opinion, in a deeper voice."
Seriously, if she doesn't want a suburban, tell her to buy a Yukon XL. If that doesn't work, buy an Excursion.

Nopenopenopenopenope. That's the only real answer here.
Would she prefer an Econoline or Express?
Ford Excretion? (actually an Expedition may fit the bill, although the 3rd row seats on those are fairly useless).
I think at this point I've gotten too weird for my extended family to ask for purchasing advice anymore.
There's no way I'm the weird one, though. Who in their right mind picks a CR-V over an International Harvester Travelall with a gently windowed 401?
Thanks for mention and I totally agree. She needs a suburban or Tahoe. Tell her to get a Sequoia if the GMs are off the table.
Having just bought a 2005 Yukon XL Denali, either convince her this is what she needs as it fits the bill really well or tell her:
"Look, you asked me for advice and I gave you my honest opinion. A second opinion needs to come from a different doctor."
Currently drives Lexus SUV.
Sees Suburban as hideous.
What you have suggested may be too utility and pedestrian.
Recommended Escalade or Navigator.

Thats why no one asks me....
yep escalade. she's too snobby to drive a chevy if she has a lexus.

So, miata isnt the answer? What about a bunch of them tied together like oxen? I bet that set up could tow 5000 pounds.

That or Toyota Landcruiser.
She had a sequoia before the RX. Claims it was too big but then talks about getting s full size truck. I don't think logic is applying here.
Nissan Armada?
They are freaking huge.
Porsche cayenne. Its not big but has the towing she wants and is an upgrade to her Lexus.

Yup.
Or two Maserati Bi-turbos.
