Correction...
Mount them in the middle of the BAY. If you have a 2 car garage with 2 cars side by side, mount 1 in the middle of each bay. Where the hood of a car would be. If there is a possibility of backing the car in, mount 2 reels centers in the bay, one front, one rear (again, where the hood of the car could be)

I have a heavy duty commercial style shelving unit. It is screwed into the wall studs so it can’t get tip over. The shelf’s are two feet deep and unit is eight foot long and four shelf’s tall. I bought sixteen of the heavy duty plastic storage box’s with the by folding tops. You would real be surprised at how much stuff you ca store in the space. The great thing also is because all the boxes are the same it also looks neat. Stuff I don’t use much or is heavy goes on the bottom shelf. Stuff I don’t use much but is lighter goes on top shelf.
In a small shop having a place for everything and putting stuff away after each use makes a bid difference in how you can work and how things look.
Look into the LED light strips at the bottom of your walls, if you are not putting anything on the floors. Having lighting at that level can be super helpful as well.
