Welcome to the club, I like the well placed and well deserved advertisement for DIYAutotune. Matt Cramer (MadScientistMatt on this board) will be pleased. Glad to see you bought the stim board, otherwise you'd be pretty bored without a car. Stay safe.

Ya, I started with the MegaVeiw. Then the Jimstim, and now I have moved on to the DIYPNP. I am really excited to be starting down this path. I have been thinking about it for years. It will kind of suck to get it all finished and not have the car around. However I am building a folder with all the documentation I need so hopefully the install will go smoothly when the time comes. At least I am not rushing to get the car running. I am thinking about building a 2nd one for the old Saab 900 after I finish this one. I need the distraction.
Welcome to the dark side!!!! It is addicting. Once you start soldering things together you want to just keep going.
My Home brew, semi plug and play, 924s project can be found here. http://clarks-garage.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8338 I am on hold untill I finish the head gaskets on my mustang. Then the 924s get the MS install. Having the JimStim is a huge help. I started without one. Big mistake. The biggest thing I can tell you is to always used a fused power source and for testing purposes you only need 12v at a1200MA or so. This way if you accentedly short something, or as I did, revers the polarity the damage will be kept to a minimum. You can use 9 volt batteries but you go through them very quickly.

I hope you get back from Afghanistan as safely as that box got there!
On a different note: I recently learned about a very cheap compact computer called Raspberry Pi
, and the first thing I thought of was "How do I to exploit it with Megasquirt?" Maybe a permanent in-car computer? (I don't even have MS...haha)
Going way of topic but I have always wanted to take one of those really small portable laptop computers that don't have a hard drive. I think they just have about 40GB of SD ram in them that act as the Hard Drive. Take it apart and mount the screen in the center of the dash and put the keyboard some place down by the shifter or have it fold out of the glove box, Set it so it powers up when you start the car and automatically runs tuner-studio. Then use the tuner-studio dash.

That's a really cool idea. You wouldn't even have to use it with MegaSquirt if you used an OBD-II reader that was USB enabled.
welcome aboard... and nice work electronics work bench/solder station you got...
the stim will make checking assembly much easier..

I am building this in Afghanistan in the little time we have after work.
I can't help you with the MS, but this statement requires me to say..
