... car for the wife. The accent is starting to smoke, p/s system is leaking, the AC compressor clutch bearings are dying and cancer is starting to creep up.

MUST HAVES: - A/C - power windows/door locks - 35+mpg - NO hybrids (her call, not mine) - NO German cars (my call) - Under $4k - not needing a lot of work now or down the road. I want at least 2 years of trouble free motoring.

HAve found a few decent candidates in the Hy/Ki world for the right price. I would like to see half the miles the Accent has (figure 125k or less on the new car).

And GO!

Oh... and no more than 400 miles from 46240.

For her (and me) Miata is not the answer.

Have you driven a Honda Civic?

Find me a civic, non-riced, under 125k miles for less than $4k. I will consider it if it's nice. problem is I'm not finding anything in that prce range that isn't a riced out rust bucket that's worse than what I have.

Nothing to suggest that you havent already mentioned except that I know where there will be a 2011 Elantra GLS with 70-75K on it going up for sale in the spring.

Meets all the requirements except price and location. But the price will be a lot closer to trade in than retail.

I paid $3k for my '88 CRX-si with 98k miles on it just a couple years ago. I might mention that it now has 120k on it, and has suffered none of the problems you have had with your Accent.

Get back to me when it is over 240k miles.

Ben, is that a 4 or 6? Will it really get 35mpg?

It's a 4. It'll get over 30mpg. 35mpg might be a little rough, but with the mileage you guys seem to get out of your cars, i have faith in you.

Also, it's a grand or so under your budget, so it'll cover a couple MPG in initial savings for at least a couple years.

Or.... there's this.

80k miles. $2k. I mean.... berkeley. I'D buy this.

I'd buy the 98 listed earlier over that one everyday and twice on Sunday if it was a choice between those two cars.
