So, I luckily (luckily?) broke one of the coolant elbows on the SVT oil cooler today while trying to get the old oil filter off. Mine was rusty like this picture (this isn't mine though), but the one with the hole in the picture was so rusty on mine that the elbow just literally broke off. I wasn't even pulling on it or anything, just was moving it a bit because the hose runs right around the filter. Honestly I am surprised it was so rusted but WASN'T leaking yet.
Anyway, seems the part might be discontinued from ford, and Rockauto doesn't seem to carry one. I haven't tried my awesome parts guy yet (Carquest) but don't have high hopes for this specific part (SVT only I think). boo.
Ok, I think I can:
- Find a used part. Pros - probably cheap, OEM fit. Cons - I really want to avoid putting something on my engine that may have been part of the oil system of a car that lunched a motor. Dunno if you really ever could flush all the crud in the oil out.
- Find a similar part or try to buy new coolant fittings and screw them into my housing (sounds like 2.0l ford escape part fits but needs new hoses and 180* adapters and such). Pros - can still buy a new part. Cons - might need to jury-rig the fit a bit, and might cause other issues.
- Bypass the coolant part of the thing altogether. Pros - easy, cheap fix. Cons - no longer have the oil cooling capacity. I do auto-x, and plan to HPDE and rallyx this car.
- Aftermarket solution? I couldn't really find much with initial searching, but I will be looking more.
What is the best answer? Something I haven't even thought of?

Not cheap, but quality parts from a very reputable company that has been around since the original Focus in 2000.
FSwerks Oil Cooler
If you go aftermarket, make sure to either stay oil-water or get a thermostat. Oil too cold is almost as bad as oil too hot.
There are no good options. Ford foolishly decided to discontinue the part about the time they all rusted and started leaking.
Every one I have (including the one on my car) is rusted badly. Usually the lowest to the ground fitting because it gets all the road salt.
I'd lose the stock oil cooler and replace it with an aftermarket thermostatic oil-air cooler. No problems with rust, no hard-to-find parts, and better oil cooling with no possibility of leaks between the oil and coolant systems.
Well, I found a part off of a zetec escape and was able to use it with just a little fuss. Thanks to the internet!!!
Ford pn YL8Z6A642AA for the escape part. Very similar just different enough to piss you off. I thought there would be enough hose to just make it fit, but alas, not so. I had to grab a 5/8 90 deg bend hose and a straight connecter to make it fit.I do think maybe grabbing the whole hose frome the escape might work, who knows, maybe i will try thst this summer since the old hose was getting a bit spongy. Old piece on the left, new on the right.
Really the worst part of this whole job was the environment-- thanks midwest!
Any chance the one from a Fiesta will fit?

Good question. I don't know. This new part came from a car that is also a zetec engine. I didn't think the fiesta was a zetec motor but I could be wrong.
I would be confident saying this will fit any zetec motor though, and quite possibly would fit any engine that uses the same oil filter as the focus svt (since it is essentially an adapter that screws in between the oil filter and the block).
maybe a good upgrade for anyone looking to build a zetec? I'll let you all be the judge.
I don't see any reason a good machine shop could not drill out the fittings and tap for a AN or SAE (o ring sealed thread) hydraulic fitting.

Holy old thread I know...But anyone got an old rusted unit I could have? Want to look at the options out there for fixes.
Or has anyone tried the Fiesta unit IceRacer pointed out?
I think I still have my busted one. I can ship it to you.
Pack rat, don't judge.
BTW, the one I used has been going great this whole time.
