if only there was a way to put a better engine and trans into those old RVs, they really were cool looking
Those are FWD, right? Looks like a strong setup for gutting out the last twelve feet for the race car and still having a sleeping quarters. As for the Mr T graphic: Priceless!

Ooo no. They use a front wheel drive Olds drivetrain in the rear of the bus. Super fun to work on.

Ram Promaster Ecodiesel swap?
Edit: Nevermind...I assumed the 3.0 Ecodiesel in the Promaster was the same 3.0 Ecodiesel in the Ram trucks, just mated to a FWD transaxle. I was wrong. It's a less capable I4 than the V6 in the trucks.
Pretty darn sure those things were front engine and FWD. Toronado 455 drivetrain if I recall.
Cool motorhome, basically the only motorhome EVER designed and produced completely by a major auto manufacturer (vs. just supplying a chassis). Huge following.
Biggest downside on this one is the misguided and non period-correct interior updates. But then again, Mr. T.!
OMG, that is some serious slow burning comic gold!
Didn't notice the mural at first, and even then took a few to realize what exactly was going on. LOL
These are totally awesome. They built the outer shell, fitted the whole interior inc stove, bathroom etc through the back, then bolted and sealed on the rear closing panel. Make for a much better water tight package than most RV's. Plus it was the only motorhome to come from a major auto manufacturer. A guy at work picked up a bit of a time capsule one with 95% of the original interior. Newer carpet and a modern fridge, but other than that very original. Even more surprising is that it's got 140K miles on the clock, a huge amount for an RV, let alone one in this condition. I'd love one.
The Bride of Burrito has officially vetoed this.
Bummer, too, because it was going to look great parked outside our abode.

I emailed the link to my GF. Her response, and I'm quoting verbatim here, was "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" If such monies were readily available and liquid, I think we'd be touring the country in style, but alas....
In reply to Burrito :
Did you tell her that one could store your bikes in the back with some modifications while touring the country?
A bit of GMC Motorhome trivia:
"Pontiac owned one of the Motor Homes and used it as part of their “Trans Am Territory” program. Trans Am Territory was a special space set aside at various race events around the country where Trans Am and Firebird owners could park their cars and socialize. The first time this took place was at Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI. June 5th and 6th 1976. Participants often got discounts and a parade lap around the track. The GMC was dubbed the “Trans Am Traveler” and was at each event, often with a display of Trans Ams and Firebirds. These events also took place at Mid Ohio, Riverside, Laguna Seca, Pocono and other locations. Trans Am and Firebird enthusiast, as well as Firebird clubs would attend in great numbers. At its peak as many as 325 cars would attend."

I also showed this to my GF. She was not quite as exuberant as yours, but it's probably best we don't have a budget for it.

The town I grew up in had one as an ambulance so there are rear doors out there somewhere.
I've never met anyone who owned or rented one of those that didn't think it was just about the best thing ever.
In reply to Wall-e :
Really? This seems odd to me for some reason.
Unless they picked up multiple people before taking them to the hospital. Or delivered medics SWAT style.
