It appears that a nice 1984 P72 package Crown Victoria LTD will very soon be living at my house. Very cool car if you can groove on that sort of thing. Have not yet been able to find specs on the car anywhere. Anyone have experience of what exactly should be done to this 351 to wake it up? Thinking of something like 300+HP and 400+ Tq. Maybe a jegs HCI kit? Some tire incineration will be required so thinking about a higher stall converter and change to higher gearing. Then it will be fun to see what could be done to make it turn and stop. The frame is stamped HD and it has front and rear anti sway bars.
I wonder whether that one has a VV carb still on it? If so a quick trip to the Holley or Edelbrock store is required.
Your horsepower desires require pistons, heads and cam, or forced induction. That one stock would be hard pressed to make 150 HP.
Having gone down the 351w rabbit hole lately I'll share what I'm going to do. The cheap upgrade is the GT40 and GT40P heads. Either will need the head bolt holes drill to accept 1/2 bolts. The P heads will probably require special headers. Cam wise you'll be able to use any nonroller SBF cam up to about .512 lift. Most of the cams will make you revert to earlier SBF firing order.
Yeah, that motor would have been around 8:1 compression and 120-140hp at the flywheel? I can imagine the pistons are so dished that they'd make better cereal bowls.
The 80s 351w HO was rated at 210hp @4000 rpm tq 305 ft lb. @2800 rpm. The HO was the 4 bbl carb and intake. I'd assume a P72 had the 4 bbl.
