Hey,

So I "rescued" this wayward XR4Ti which has an Automatic Transmission (Barf) and it is leaking where one or both of the transmission cooler lines enters the transmission.

How do these fittings seal? Is it a swivel fitting with an o-ring type seal? I don't think it's a flare fitting...but I'm not sure.

Here's a photo of the mostly-obscured fittings in question:

I can't get at them yet, but at least if I know how they seal I can have that piece of info.

Thanks!

Clem

those should be o-ring seals, IIRC.

Time for a manual transmission.

It wouldn't be the first time I had done it to an XR4Ti.

That's more parts-scrounging than I'm really up for with this project, I think.

Double flare on those iirc. Looks like the fitting might just be loose or crooked.

If they are double flare, they're certainly loose.

I remember MANY years ago having a fox mustang steering rack where the hydraulic hard lines wouldn't get tight. I asked a ford mechanic who said, "Yeah...they're supposed to do that." Turns out, he was right. I expect these cooler lines could be similar.

The big problem is getting TO the fittings. I think I'm going to have to lower the back of the transmission or something. I thought I could get the dipstick tube out of the way...but the last little bit of it seems to be semi-permanently mounted.
