Nasty accident, when they first cut to the video of Gutierrez in the gravel trap, it took me 10 seconds to even notice that the Honda was in the shot. The first I saw it was when I saw Alonso climbing out!
That pit stop screwup likely cost Vettel second. He lost 2-2.5 seconds from it, which would have put him in passing position with fresher tires.
Hamilton, conversely, got unlucky with the timing of the red flag. He'd just pitted for mediums -- had it happened a lap earlier he'd have been 2-3 positions further up the field and easily won it.

Well, that was fun.
That was a long night staying up to watch. Was really hoping Vettel would start the season by taking down the silver arrows.
Couldn't believe Alonso crawled out of that pile. I thought it was going to be bad.

Apart from Alonso's wreck, I hope this is a sign of the season to come. Qualifying - How about we just draw starting positions out of a hat a be done with it? That will make much more exciting when Hamilton pulls a 17. Congrats to Haas for finishing the race and doing it in 6th place with Grosjean. That's a very good start for a new team.

Indeed- that was a very good start for the Haas team.
I didn't see the race- what happened to Kimi's car? I saw youtubes footage of him in the pit with fire coming out of it

Kimi's Ferrari had some sort of power unit failure. Don't know more than that. In Nascar terms, "She done blowed up going down the backstretch, but it was really hauling right before it broke."
I enjoyed the complete lack of panic when Kimi came into the pits and proceeded to blow flame. Fire bottle guy was "oh, hey, let me get that for you", Kimi was "if you're done, I guess I should get out".
Other than the red flag, I don't think Grosjean did an official pit stop.
Neither haas car did a pit stop.
Why did Ferrari to to the reds? I thought they had the race wrapped up until that move....

Why did any of the cars in front of Hamilton not go to the mediums?? I see that one move giving the Mercedes 1-2.
Great job for Haas!!! They had some speed, too- so it was not a fluke. Not front end speed, but for sure, mid pack speed. Even if they have trouble scoring for the rest of the season, those points could mean millions of dollars at the end of the season.
Great race with a stellar start. I haven't yelled at the tv in excitement in a very long time. It's great to see Ferrari with the pace to match the Mercs.

In reply to ncjay:
Kimi is great the Iceman doesn't seem to get to excited even if he was on fire.
I think the interview would be pretty much typical for Kimi
I was on fire,
I think you saw it,
they put me out.

The ITV guys were saying that Merc burned up 50 sets of mediums in testing this winter, and Ferrari hadn't done nearly as many, so they were afraid they would lose too much speed. I presume the rest of the teams had similar thoughts. Doesn't really bode well for the red cars when your number one driver goes out on supersofts, and the other guy goes out on mediums and stays within 3 seconds for 20 laps or so.
Great race. Max V. continues to prove he's just a little E36 M3. A fast little E36 M3, but a brat no the less. I think Sainz drove a great race and I was really really impressed with Joylon Palmer in the Renault for a first race. He had some great race race craft that allowed him to keep the Pink Bulls at bay.
Great job by HAss. Did you see the T shirts at the end of the race? 'Have no Fear Hass F1 team are here' Loved them.
That was a serious accident for Alonso, he really looked shaken when he got out of the car.
I'm rewatching it with the Sky TV commentators, and it's like a different race. They're so much more on the ball, so much more knowledgable than the NBC folks - and nobody's tried to sell me anything yet. Heck, they've sussed out the tire strategy and called the podium (correctly) about halfway into the race.
If F1 is going to become more popular in the US, it needs proper tv coverage.
Not just F1. NBC is pretty bad and they treat the fans like total idiots.
I just about puke at the thought of watching IMSA on FS1 or 2. Overall the coverage of motorsports is horrible in the US. Sebring was a joke. At least radio Lemans is in place for some of the bigger races.

Have any tips on how to watch that version?
You can buy a one-day pass to watch Sky sports for about 7 pounds. It's only live, though. Not for replay.

It's not the commentators. They all know their E36 M3, I think they are told to dole out kindergarten quality to 'teach' people. If they were let of the leash they'd be great. I'm not saying as good as Brundel as he's possibly the best F1 commentator I've ever heard. I only watch Sky these days.

Know of anywhere you CAN get full race replays online? Gonna try to make an effort to get back into following F1 this year, but it kinda sucks without a DVR.
And apparently qualifying is going back to the old system effective immediately.

I tried to PM you but I keep getting a 'broke' notice.
