I think Lewis will still be the quickest car on track so being out of order could lead to a very interesting race. Detailed Prediction: Leclerc has a good start, Bottas tucks in behind him through first turn, Max and Bottas touch, one of them gets damaged and Lewis takes advantage and moves up a position or two. Leclerc pulls away but has to pit earlier and Lewis puts in a stonking lap but it isn't enough to overcut (undercut?) Leclerc. Lewis hounds Leclerc all the way to the end but it's the Ferrari that wins.

That seems like a very realistic proposition. I could see Lewis pushing Charles into an error sometime.
Seb finishes last of the big five drivers, other than the guys that crash on lap one.
For how much pace Max had that was a pretty E36 M3ty pass on Charles, it will probably stick (maybe I'll be wrong again) but it opens him up to another investigation.
Good race though

Can’t choose Max on this one, not egregious but unnecessary. He did have the faster car and likely would have gotten past at another point.

Agreed. He pushed Leclerc off and had no reason to do so. The immediate “he turned into me!” radio call got a laugh at our house, because it might as well be prerecorded every time Max pushes someone off the outside.
Norris was a hell of a lot of fun to watch, as was the Gasley/Kimi scrap.

Hadn’t heard those, I think Mercedes is pretty happy with their driver lineup. But will Gasley last the season at Red Bull?

If that was a bad pass, we need to go back and reassess the finishing order for every race between Lewis and Nico.
If we compare this pass to the Canada penalty, Charles gets a penalty for turning into Max, and Max gets a penalty for pushing him off the track.
Then Seb gets a penalty for whining, and it's a Merc 1-2.
Finally a good F1 race. Restores my faith a little. Congrats to Max, Charles and Honda........all put on an awesome show.

Good. I was able to accept Sebs Canada penalty after I pictured the same move in the chicane coming out of the tunnel in Monaco.
I can't imagine a scenario where I wouldn't have accepted Max's move. Well, unless I was driving the Ferrari.

So the difference is the level of consequence to the move. The Canada incident would have put Lewis into a high speed pinball accident unless he took action to avoid Seb (I personally believe that Seb had enough control to leave safe room had he desired). In this case, it was a loss of position. That’s a reasonable thing to take into account, honestly. Although simply trying to stay on track isn’t quite the same as “turning in” on someone. It wouldn’t be a Max race without him bumping someone, and some people celebrate that. It’s worth noting that there were a bunch of tight passes and battles for position, and nobody else made contact.
I suspect that the Lewis vs. Nico battles were treated differently because they were on the same team, so it was left to the team to police.

Same here, I am a fan of letting them race but just hate to see that bumper car behavior. The can drive for sure, just needs to stop being such a kid.
So lost in this discussion is a nice, new rivalry between LeClerc and Verstappen. I noticed Charles was pretty pissed on the podium.
I am thanking the Lord that the Stewards stayed out of this one. (And I ain't a great believer.....)

According to the commentators, an old rivalry. Of course, one cranky driver is not a rivalry otherwise Max would have a rivalry with every other driver. But you know what will happen the next time Charles is inside Max on a corner...

THIS....WAS THE SHOW OF THE SEASON !!!!! Yea and the 'caps' are for a reason!!!
Max may be the the brat y'all make him to be....but WOW!!!
Keith actually Leclerc did turn into Verstapen (note I'm a Hamilton fan); if you take a look at the helicopter overhead shot Verstapen goes straight on almost parallel to the apex then turns in. Leclerc turns on a more normal line almost as if he was going to do an over and under style repass attempt, the trajectory could have only resulted in contact. Yes it was an aggressive block pass by Verstapen but Leclerc wasn't about roll over so he held his ground and subsequently ran out of ground.
Both drivers committed 100% to a trajectory and one of them got the short end. For me it's a racing incident. It reminded of the Al Unser Jr v Fittipaldi Indy contact we Unser said "one of us wasn't going to come out of it"
Naturally if I were Leclerc I'd be pissed too, guys at this level don't like finishing 2nd.
