I've already seen this, that was a really touching moment. Even though William's has struggled mightly, recently, Frank is a class act and deserves a ton of respect for how he built up that team.
Do you suppose Albon will find enough Thai cash to get Gasleys seat? Will they try Kvyatt again? Will Honda let them hire Alonso?
Gasley is sure not covering himself with glory.
Will it rain in quali, like the forecast says? That often makes for some weird grids.
And maybe a wet race, too.
I don't know the name for the specific hats that the Merc mechanics are wearing this weekend, but I'm not sure I want to live in a world where those have gone out of style.
I cheer for Lewis but I'm sad to see the Ferrari challengers run into so much trouble-I want to see some battles!! We have had a couple of boring races but overall there is lots to think about and talk about with this season and I look forward to every race weekend
Silverstone was the best race of the season. Yah OK Mercedes ran away and hid but there was real racin' goin on for the rest of the top 6 or so. But man, Q3 has been more interesting to watch than the actual races. How do we get to where we are working the problem as hard during the race as we do in Q3?
I think Binotto should really shake things up at Ferrari and come out in rectangular frame glasses (like he wore when Schumacher was winning everything)
Epicly weird race.
And the worst weekend for Mercedes is how long? Perhaps back to Spain when they crashed each other out?
i do not like vettel, but he had the Opposite Day to the Merc team.
I caught myself rooting for Lance for a minute there. How cool would it have been to have a podium with no Merc or Ferrari?
With all of Toto's talk about making a driver decision in August, I don't think Valterri contributed much to his Why I Should Keep My Job essay. I was really rooting for him but even before he balled it up he just didn't seem to be able to make up any ground. Hamilton certainly wasn't having a good day by any stretch, but that's exactly the kind of race where Bottas needed to shine - and by shine, I mean win - if he wants to keep his ride.
Steiner has got to do something about MAG and GRO. I'm not sure which one of them is worth keeping, but my money would be on finding K-Mag a new teammate since he seems incrementally more consistent than the Frenchman.
Speaking of teammates, are we seeing Kyvat making a solid case to ride with Max next year? Gasley isn't doing much to impress so far, although Albon isn't doing so bad.
Great race, though. Maybe Bernie is on to something with the sprinklers...
What a weekend for Danii. Birth of his daughter last night and a podium today. I bet he will be smiling on through Tuesday.
It was an epicially crazy race and I loved it. Easily the best race I've seen in a while. For the first time in a while, It really was a drivers race with a lot of the equipment equalized.
Iinteresting race.
2 things about penalties...
1 how the he'll did leclerc only get a financial penalty?
2 why did Hamilton get the 5 second penalty? Is the rule that black and white?
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
Yes, He was past pit in. He got a major advantage by diving in there instead of having to go a complete lap in a damaged car. If he would have taken the whole lap it would have probably been 10-15 seconds lost.
One thing that I noted- Mercedes still seems to not be able to make situational calls.
First of all- seeing the slick tires vs. what LeClerc was doing before pitting- I don't recall seeing any obvious advantage for the slicks, yet. And then he went into the wall- so Mercedes should not have put slicks on Lewis.
Then the accident and the messy pit- that one could have happened to anyone, and so be it. But Lewis then ended up with a penalty for that.
Ok- as I saw it- the next chance, you should have pitted him and taken the penalty- so there was a VSC where he could have pitted, and based on the times I saw, he would have been in great spot after serving the penalty. They didn't do that, and left him out.
I totally missed the start after the last big SC, but heard from where I was that it was total chaos. Yea, stacking the drivers would have sucked, but it's worked in the past, and there was no reason not to do it, again.
So in the context of the entire team, and their management performance, I really don't see holding Valteri to a different standard. It sucked the he crashed, but so did Lewis, and the team just suffered after the beginning of the race. Move on, let the evaluation happen next week. Really, the only fault I have for Valteri is that he should have dispatched Stroll before when he actually did- and he has had issues passing cars that he should be passing.
For Haas- I just don't see that ending touch between the two cars ending well after the summer break. One of both of those guys need to go, as it's clear they can't work together. Gunther needs to figure out which one is better for the team.
