Do any of you guys think that the Cop Chargers will be as big with this croud as P71's are once departments start selling them off? Or how about the performance potential of the FWD police malibus(?) and intrepids?

Or will the P71 remain king?

I think the P71 is king right now because there aren't any more recent surplus B-body 9C1s. I am patiently waiting for Hemi Chargers to hit 300,000 miles and $990.

There is a dedicated following of the FWD 9C1. Lots of interesting info, manual swaps, supercharger retrofits and boost upgrades... Interesting stuff! I haven't even driven a FWD Impala, though, but the latest GRM issue's IHRotM was a FWD ex-cop Impala.

Many of the Chargers in service are V6 models. Our local SCCA region has invited local law enforcement to run at several autocross events and the P71s have routinely dominated over the Mopars.

As for the Malibus and Intrepids...I'm inclined to say they're turning the wrong wheels. I know there are fast FWD cars out there, but I've never seen a fast HUGE front driver.

The Intrepids are nothing special so no on them. The 9C1 FWD Impala's are actually kind of cool though and I can see a future rallycrosser in one. The Charger I'm still in the air about, they are really not all that good or high quality and the mods for them are horrendously limited and expensive. I love my P71 but even it doesn't hold a candle to an LT1 9C1 Caprice. I think the future of cop rods is looking kinda bleak actually...

OK, I wasn't sure if the bow ties where mali's or Imp's, or maybe bothe, I could have sworn it was a malibu that pulled me over the first time... but who cares, I got off with a warning

I've been wondering how soon it will be before the police Chargers hit the auction block. Bound to be cheaper than the civilian versions, and they look a lot meaner with black steelies and a push bar than 22" chrome rims.

I'll never stop loving my 9C1, even if it hates me and has tried to kill me on two separate occasions.

If you've ever owned an LT1 Caprice, the FWD Impalas make you ill to think about.

Look for about 5 years from a municipality purchase to auction on cop cars.

My son has the 2000 9C1 Impala. You can drive it hard in town and pull 20-22mpg with the 3800 V6. I was surprised how much is different between the police package and civillian model on these FWD Impalas when I started looking at these-Brakes, tranny, wheels, radiator, suspension, coolers, alternator, etc. I didn't expect the different equipment with the FWD like the RWD models of the past. We bought it in May 2008 with 63,000 miles on it so it was clean for a ex cop cruiser. You can buy an aftermarket turbo setup for these-I believe through cartuning.com

I too, would like a used Charger squad car. I'm sure they will be bring big money the first few years. Their will be taxi drivers fighting over these soon.

Another reason to be disappointed that Chrysler killed the Magnum. This would have been a great supply of used cop car V8 wagons after police use.
