I think one of you guys posted a link to a website that was all about planning and building garages/shops. it had a picture gallery and design ideas, and a pretty big forum addressing all sorts of issues. i can't for the life of me find it, My google-fu is weak. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Garage Journal is a dangerous site. The first time I fell into it, my family had to dress in khaki and pith helmets, and slash jungle vegetation with sharp machetes just to find me. "SkinnyG, I presume?"

Yeah, same here. I recently joined, and while I haven't posted yet, I've spent hours reading about the dangers of using PVC for compressed air, why incandescent/CFL/flourescent tube/LED lighting is best, etc, etc. For some reason, I have more passion for working on my shop right now than on the cars inside it.
That site has caused my wallet no end of trouble.
Garagejournal is an excellent example of how internet forums can turn interests into obsessions. I have watched over the course of years members sign up and go from "what is the best value in quality tools" to not even using the tools, just collecting high end tools. Some have extremely high end collections and then have secondary boxes of lesser tools that they actually use so they don't scuff the nice ones.
And do not go on there thinking you can post anything politcal or religious.
I've been on garagejournal.com for years. It has been a big influence on how I have designed and outfitted my shop. I would NEVER have considered porcelain tile for the floor if I hadn't researched it there, for example. There is great stuff on what lifts to buy, how to install and/or modify them. The fabrication section is fabulous.
I bought my Maxjax lift on a group buy there, etc., etc.

Good rule for work, for the internet, for life in general.
I don't post there mainly just read. Its crazy how much detail many of the posters go into with everything from lighting to floor coverings. If anything it has steered me away from doing epoxy on the floors of my garage and towards tile.
Storage is another aspect that is fun to read about. Some of those guys come up with some crazy good ideas.

Ditto. I have a (very) small garage build thread on there, and as pathetic as it is compared to many of the build threads there, I still get friendly comments on it periodically. And suggestions. And ideas. I too am going the porcelain floor route eventually, after endless hours of research on the topic on GJ....
I try not to go on there too often, because the awesomeness of some people's HOME garages on there makes me hate mine sometimes.....even though mine is way better than most of my "car friends'" garages. Plus it's not really GRM there....some of the garage builds there have budgets just for cabinets that are larger than the total of everything I've ever spent on all my tools and garage stuff, ever :)
Jack Olsen's garage continues to be my inspiration. 2-car. Not ultra-high-budget. But totally excellent.

The thread on vises in garage journal, don't go there, just don't go there!

Jack Olsen posts here on occasion.
Trying to think of a way to start a country of origin fight in this thread but failing.
The constant blathering about COO in the tools subforum is what drives me away from there the most.
