This looks just like the overlay that I get on my videos from my Garmin Ultra 30 action camera.

Which gopro, which resolution is it recording at, and what frame rate?

The catalyst's video isn't otherworldly, just "decent" - though Youtube does make it look worse than it does on device or on my computer to be fair.

1080p

This last race at Daytona was my boiling point with GoPros. Two batteries on them went tits up, one was set to video and instead took about 9 million bursts.

There's got to be a better solution out there.

I just got one and used it at Lime Rock a few weeks ago.  I'm quite impressed by the instant feedback and real time suggestions/confirmations.  I'm really excited to try it this weekend at Palmer, as that was my first time in real life at Lime Rock, and I have a few thousand laps at Palmer.

I'm downloading the update now!

I did get to use this at Palmer last weekend, and I gotta say, I'm quite impressed.  It helped me drop about 1.3 second off of my previous best, and in a very repeatable way.  That was pretty cool.  It says that my ideal lap time is within .4 seconds of my best lap, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Wow, the new video export is pretty schweet!  It's very easy to use, as well.  Nice job, Garmin team!

I'm really happy to see that update!  I bought my Catalyst last November with the hopes that they'd add this feature.  It was the one feature I really wanted besides what it already did!

Now it basically does everything I used my old traqmate for, but more clearly, easily and with coaching

Yeah, by the time I was done last week I was within a second of my "optimal lap" as well. It's important to note the optimal lap is just what it thinks your theoretical best lap would be based on your best segments. It doesn't consider any kind of real optimal racing line. It was interesting to see my optimal lap time go down significantly over the course of the day as I got more confident and just went faster despite my lines not really changing. Now that I've had more time to play with it (not so much time between runs at the track) I got to see how some of the things I was trying differently affected my times.  For example, on my best lap of the day, I took a drastically different line through Turn 2 at Dominion and it basically cascaded through the entire lap. The real test will be when I go back in two months.

They REALLY need to get speed trace/graph comparisons apps built in - they help a lot more in micro-segments than just looking at an arbitrary line and what the computer thinks. I.e. if you look at my micro-segments at NCM it's REALLY fast for me to berkeley up sending it into turn 10 and over-cook, but it sets you up badly for 11/12/13. The Garmin thinks that's a great idea so it says - "oh, you could be 5/10ths faster through here if you just do what you did that one time!"

I think for absolute novices it's probably got decent suggestions, but as you get faster the raw data becomes more valuable than it's crack-brained suggestions.
