my father-in-law called me last night to tell me that Atlanta doesn't have gasoline. Any truth to that, or was he on the sauce?

Basically, it was all fecked up due to a combination of the the hurricanes and the damned "blend" we use for "summer gas." Did you know there are like 55 different berkeleying "summer blends" in the U.S.? Anyway, the HPA (hippy protection agency) lifted the restrictions, so we should be good to go pretty soon here. PM me for an update before you leave if you'd like, and regardless, fill up outside of the city. We've still got plenty of fuel out here in the country, because people don't freak out and buy 80 berkeleying 5 gallons of gas for every vehicle they own as soon as they hear the words "gas shortage" on the news. That's how I like to see it anyway.
Fill up before you get to Tennessee. Fill up in North GA, before you get to Atlanta. That should skip most of the tards.
Weird. We have had no problems in Chucktown, but the weekend of Hurricane Ike I saw gas stations sold out in Columbia.
tow rig has range of about 450 miles. any issues with fuel in areas other than atlanta? my path takes me through
Detroit MI Toledo OH Dayton OH Cinci OH Lexington KY Knoxville TN Chattanooga TN Hotlanta GA Macon GA Valdosta GA Gainesville FL
Pretty sure the AT-izzLe is the only bad one right now. It's a damned joe-juh thing. Like I said, the restrictions are lifted; they just need to get the E36 M3 here. Our gas is currently 30 cents above the national average though. FYI.
Huntsville stations are asking us to keep purchases under 10 gallons and don't seem to have anything except 87 octane.
so how exactly do we get to the challenge? i guess i could fill up all my cans and haul them down....
I know a guy with a station about an hour SW of Birmingham, AL, he's run out each of the past two weekends.

Not a bad idea.
Weird. In SoFla, no shortages, price is around 3.80 / gallon. A little out of the way for you guys headed for Gainesville though.
No problems here in Macon, AFAIK. My sister in law is from Atlanta, and she was talking to a friend up there who said they went to 13 stations the other day before finding one with regular unleaded.
We're starting to experience small outages across Hamilton County (Chattanooga). The mountains and other areas including the heavily populated suburbia. There have been signs up for two weeks asking everyone to only get ten gallons or less. Now we're running out.
Good thing I drive a civic with an 11.something gallon tank, but I'm thinking of converting the IH Scout to LP/CNG, seriously, -and I'm not the only one looking long at hard at my v8.
Chattanooga has a few out but @ a place that has gas for $3.78 has yet to run out when the rest are at $3.89.
Be careful if traveling in or around Tallahassee on I-10 when leaving there this weekend after drinking my weight in Natural Light, I had a tough time finding gasoline to get home. Most stations had nothing left or 87 only. Luckily I had a quarter of a tank left and just went about 20 miles down the road and found some. My friends told me everyone freaked up there and did the exact same thing.
I'm glad we didn't run into any of these sorts of problems on the way back from the Gap a couple of weeks ago. It was bad enough paying $4.99/gal in Knoxville because of some silly windstorm or something.
I hope things are worked out before the 11th. We'll be picking up a '83 280ZX T 2+2 in Jacksonville and driving back to KY. A fuel shortage will not be something we want to face on the trip home.
Good call, I didn't even think of that gas crap that's going on. I'll be taking the same route as you from Chattanooga onward.
You'll need to log in to post.
