Anyone ever hear dof a PCV fix for the GM 3.6 V6 that is supposed to solve for oil consumption? Buddy of mine has an 05 CTS that runs like a champ but has used oil for some time. Posts at GM inside news forum indicate there is a home fix that involves drilling out and enlarging existing holes inside the stock PCV.
What part of the PCV system?
Drillling holes in the valve would increase the flow and perhps exacerbating the oil consumption.
I supect tha the problem may be oil splashing from the crank. Does this engine have an oil seperator.?

Put a water seperator/filter for an air compressor in the vacuum system, mine cleans that issue up nicely
Otherwise, I wouldn't mess with it.....who knows, that might be the only reason it still runs.

Be careful with oil consumption on that motor, I have an 05 CTS that used about a quart (or more) per 1000 miles of driving. The car seemingly ran fine, until one day the CEL light came on. The car had 63k miles on it at the time, and currently only has 68k.
Long story short it needed all new timing gear($$$), the day I picked it up after the repair the CEL came back on. The reluctor wheel had broken off of the crankshaft, its just a press fit. They had to pull the motor, and basically rebuild the entire bottom end with a new crank etc.(even more $$$$$)
If it were me I'd sell it and move on. The 3.6 makes great power but its the most unreliable POS I've ever owned and I've had 22 cars.
Feel free to have your friend contact me and I can go through the whole thing with him, including the costs and detailed list of repairs that had to be done.

Its the Catera all over again eh?
It sounds like Cadillac has a different kind of "standard" in mind when you buy one of their cars...at least the 6 cylinder ones.
some newer GM engines use a lot of oil due to the pcv system.. you'd think that they same engineers that can design these engineering marvels would be able to figure out how to design a simple baffle to keep oil out of the vacuum line that hooks up to the pcv valve- especially when you consider that GM had some pretty damn awesome (and brutally simple) baffles in the valve covers of their engines starting in the late 60's when they started using pcv valves..
Sounds like the MIL's 3.9 Impala.... 2qts in 2k miles. Yet nothing is "wrong". Only reason we know it is using oil is because I checked it. If I hadn't, she would have had a new motor already with the same problem.
