GMT400 Radio Upgrade Options

I have a 98 K1500 and want to upgrade the radio. I've become a little spoiled with the Bluetooth in the camaro and would like it in the GMT400.

My problem is I hate aftermarket radios normally. I think normally they don't look at home. I don't do the flip ups or the ones that stick out of the dash.

I generally listen to podcasts, so crazy good sound quality isn't the goal here, although better than what I have with a 25 year old gm cassette player would be welcome.

I'm looking for Bluetooth capability and simplicity that integrates well into the interior. Do I have any options?

Ill try to gelrab pictures in the daylight if o remember, but i find the low level kenwood single din blend in well enough on my 95s.

I'd check Crutchfield for single-DIN digital media receivers. They should cover your use case pretty well and depending on the radio you pick, not too out of place.

If you want something that'll do Apple Carplay or Android Auto, you're probably stuck with one of the stick-out screen ones as IIRC the GMT400s are 1.5 DIN and thus it's a problem finding something that'll fully integrate into the dashboard.

1FactoryRadio makes (or made) a refurb OEM with Bluetooth. No bluetooth control, just playing music wirelessly.

I went a long way down this path with my GMT400 and found that if I wanted bluetooth control, I either had to have a separate bluetooth setup that used an aux input to the stock radio or I had to do some really custom stuff integrating a bluetooth board inside the unit that I never quite got around to trying.

I've got a 97 model and I too wanted bluetoof but I did not want to change the radio and put in a theft magnet aftermarket one. Besides, the factory radio is more robust than any aftermarket radio on the planet.

In the end I got one of those bluetoof adapters that plugs into your lighter socket from Amazon for like 12 bucks. You just make one of your radio presets set to a dead channel. When you want to stream your phone you just hit the  preset to that channel and then play your podcast through the factory radio. In the end I'm happy enough with it as I did not want to modify any wiring or swap the head unit.

You have a nice big opening in that dash, but the cavity is pretty shallow in places.  Expect to have to cut some plastic behind.

If you get a nicer double-din touchscreen they have all the bells and whistles but look very simple.  Not a lot of curved bezels and chrome.  I'll likely be doing an Alpine in mine for around $400, but there are mulitple brands/options starting in the mid $100s.  Just depends on if you want a cheapy like Boss or Soundstream, or something higher end like Pioneer or Alpine.

If you look at single dins without a CD player they are not very deep and should mount flush. The removable face should be enough of a theft detterant hopefully.

Do people still steal car radios?!?

I think at this point, as much as gmt400s are going up, theyd just take the whole truck. They arent hard to steal.
