I sold my Civic last spring. The kid didn't actually have the money, but I trusted him. I told him to pay me when he could, take the car, and go be awesome.
He did pay me, and in the mean time, he did just what I asked him to do and landed himself on the cover of the next Sportscar. I'm happy that I had a small part in this.
Wow, glad your trust paid off. I don't have that kind of faith in strangers after reading years of horror stories from the Internet.
He was someone I had known through autocross for a bit. Sometimes you know you can trust someone.
Any more details? Sounds like a great story. Pictures and specs of the car maybe?
I have the PDF for the whole magazine that's not out yet, but I'm not sure how to link the whole thing?
Here is the article from Tracktuned that the SCCA picked up and turned into the article for the magazine with permission and new pictures.
The car is my old Civic which I talk about in my build thread from before he bought it. Pretty much the same as when he got it. He's shown remarkable restraint in leaving it the way it is and just working on himself as a driver.
The spirt of Bill & Ted live.
That is a really nice thing you did. I never really can tell when I can trust somebody. When I do, and then it turns out good I feel bad for that little kernel of doubt.
In any case - your awesome enabled his awesome. If I say that's awesome it gets to be a bit much... but that's awesome.

Having spoken to both of you, it's cool to hear about this little tidbit of charitableness working out for the better in the local Houston autocross community.

Life works out better if trust is your default setting.
