Ever since I saw the BAC mono I have been obsessed. I had similar feelings about the Ford Formula Ecoboost. Sadly these are way out of my price range. RCR makes a kit called the Nemesis but it is not exactly what I have in mind. Have any of you guys ever considered building a single seater with a car engine? I believe Factory five has worked out a lot of kinks on making a WRX tranny compatible for a mid engine application. I have crazy ideas like putting a 13B or a v-tec back there. Let me know your thoughts (even if they are crazy). -Thanks-

The issue with converting something that wasn't designed as a single seat and converting it into one is relocation of the steering column, pedal cluster and steering rack adaptation to such. A side by side exocet type build is much easier to accomplish using a donor of your choosing. In a few years when 2.3EB mustangs start popping up on copart fairly readily and cheap I see this being a popular option for that platform, as well and the 2.0t camaro.

Oooo - 2.3 Ecoboost Exocet sounds like an awesome idea.

I have always liked both the BAC Mono and FF Ecoboost. I started off falling for the Light Car Company Rocket and more extreme version of the layout in the Comparo T1. I like the idea of tandem seating and central seating for driver with open wheel feel. I had a shop tour of RCR when the Nemesis was being developed. I like it but only 1 seat means no way to share the fun with anyone else. Very limiting and since NASA HPDE requires instructor sign/ride off it is even more limiting.

I ended up building an Exocet and am loving it for a lot of the same reasons even if it is a side by side layout. I would love to do an 1 liter Ecoboost to cut some weight off the front end and have the same side exhaust and intake layouts on the motor as the BP. Sadly there are likely better cheaper options that are easier to implement.

Thanks, I feel like the same conclusion is true. The cat fish is screaming at me but I spent a little time with a friend's well sorted Honda powered locust (the best 7 I have encountered) and it left me wondering what a formula ford type tub and a longitudinal vtec must feel like. Or 13b or ecotec for that matter. I have a very lightweight miata and it always makes me ask how much smaller I can go. I already own a buggy and a bunch of cheap karts and I just want to feel what a car powered kart would be like on the expressway. I am going to start a new project soon and I am just debating options.

Use an Audi transaxle instead of the Scooby and you'll save some money and improve strength. The GT40/Lambo guys use them with built Ford V8s and BMW V12s.

For the center seat issue, make it like a Can-Am/Sports Racer where the passenger seat is pretty minimal and has barely enough room for a safely seated passenger. I've seen an OLD Lola Indy car converted to this type of solution and made street legal.

Or you could make room for a passenger behind the driver and use it for storage when not carrying a passenger.

You know, tandem seating would give it a military tactical jet kind of feeling!
