Been shopping S197 Mustangs and was hoping to find a good forum out there for info. Sure there are lots of them, but which is the most tech savvy instead of arguments about tire dressing and stick on spoilers?
Trying to figure out gauge cluster swaps (4 to 6 gauge) and sway bar sizes for various chassis options.
Are you sure you won't burst into fire if you sit in a Ford?
I can't believe I'm saying this, as I used to be totally against Facebook, but I suggest Facebook.
Forums today are rife with morons. You'll have one or two guys with good knowledge, about twenty members with copy/paste abilities, and about 100 members that solely serve to derail your thread.
I'm absolutely disgusted with Miata.net. A travesty of a forum. Overrun with subintelligent fanboys and hairdressers. Dare I say, miata.net is actually WORSE than the 2jz forums.

^^ He is right...I HATE facebook as a platform for discussing cars...but sadly, that is where everyone has migrated. However, its really annoying because every one of them is a private group so you cant just jump around and browse knowledge without signing up for that group(and some of them have stupid requirements)...forums in general are dying because people think facebook is good platform....and sadly you have little choice in chasing knowledge.

Yes, that is a risk. But if I sit in a Hyundai it's a sure thing!
I'm not on Facebook....
I could ask here, but would surely be wasting everyones time.
S197forum.com is where i used to lurk. Check out the corner carvers section for the best info.

How so? Several of us own them, have owned them, or have built them.
In reply to ultraclyde :
That's true. And many of us still possess more knowledge than those who own them anyway!
I need to update my profile pic, moved form a 92 Mustang to a 2008.
After exhaustive research, basically called some suspension companys and had them enlighten me on their theorys. Ended up with Steeda and Koni suspension. Mine has a tweaked 4.6, all the bolt ons and some Brenspeed detroit rocker cams. First HPDE I matched my old fox's lap times, with a lot left on the table.
My needs were more touring with some HPDE for the S197, normally I use Maximum motorsport for a more track oriented car.
Trackmustangsonline.com
S197forum.com, is ok.
Here

Use the trick of entering into Google search bar site:grassrootsmotorsports.com S197
That should turn up some good reading. Also maybe edit your original post to include the swaybar and cluster questions. There's at least a handful of members here that are experts on that chassis.
Trackmustangsonline.com or the vorshlag forum. Terry is pretty active on the Mustang pages on facebook though so you can just ask there.
Social media has changed lots of things "good" and "forums" being some of them. This is the last bastion of civilized, helpful, and active car forums that I know about. Corral.net was once awesome; now it is not.
Definitely check out Terry Fair's 2011 GT build on the Vorshlag forum (cross posted in the S197 forum). He builds a stock GT into a car that breaks all sorts of track records, even with a full interior and 3800lb race weight. It's a long thread to read but very enjoyable and there's a ton of good info on S197 handling to be found in there.
