It's too bad the Henry Ford Museum grounds doesn't have an interesting road going through as that could be a cool place to host it and have that estate/park vibe.

Interesting. And as for an interesting road, Ford's proving ground is literally right across the street.

It's pretty amusing that non-Texans think COTA is 'not in Austin/out in the sticks'.  By Texas standards it still counts as Austin!

Festival of Speed doesn't depend on a road course, thankfully. It's just a hillclimb, one car at a time. Basically a chance for the cars to make squealy sounds and loud noises and smells.

So back to Michigan and instead of M1 or Waterford Hills why wouldn't they look into Meadowbrook at Oakland University? It's more like a grand estate with all of the fatures necessary for the event built in?

Waterford Hills would  be great for Karts,  came to that decision after doing a track day there.

Austin is only a 3 hour drive from Dallas. I used to have a girlfriend in Austin. I could take her out to dinner at night and be back in Dallas for work the next morning. El Paso is in an entirely different time zone from Austin and Dallas. A weekend trip. Amarillo is a 5 hour drive from me. It snows there when it isn't snowing in the rest of the state. My huskies like to go there for a day trip.

Where is this 'sticks' you speak of?

What about Hershey PA? They already have a hillclimb there and world-class car shows.

That said - I'm still partial to Road America though. Gorgeous area and a great track.

True, COTA is kind of bland and does not have the history or heritage of so many other tracks, but it is big, and has tons of parking. Plus, having events like the Festival of Speed is how a track GETS heritage. It's not really "out in the sticks", it's right next to a high speed toll road (85 mph speed limit a few miles further south), a stones' throw from the airport. When the SVRA comes in November, its a blast.

I was getting confused by the IT HAS NO HERITAGE statement. How does a track gain heritage? By hosting events like this. It has everything needed to support a potentially huge event. Heritage isn't quantifiable and it doesn't mean much when starting new things. COTA will def attract the younger crowd which is needed for sustainability. Look at the turnout for Texas Mile, TX2K, and charity ralley's. Let's of Millenials with money that are into car culture in Texas. I was impressed after I moved from Southern California.

Heritage is a great reason why our military is behind the times in so many things lmao.
