The Daewoo of Death is dead. The Hyundai of Horror rises in its place. I ended up paying 2400 bucks for a really clean, nice little Avante (Elantra) XD sedan. Five speed, 1.5 DOHC and four wheel discs. Right now I'm just going to go through and make it perfect (mostly fixing some minor rust). Then I'll be doing the no-bars suspension stuff I tried on the Daewoo and doing 1.5L class time trials. Then I'm gonna build my first engine. 
You're, I think, the coolest dude ever.

I think I'll stick with my old name. I still miss the old girl. 
Didn't these some with beta motors in them too? Beta turbo sounds like where the fun is at.

Most of the US market Elantras have Betas. I eventually want to move up to a racing class where everybody is limited to around 200 hp. I can do that with an Alpha turbo or an NA Beta. Haven't decided which I prefer.
I came upon a dilemma today. There are four white Avante XD sedans on my block. There were seven in the grocery store parking lot. If I loosen the criteria a little bit and accept other colors or hatchbacks, those numbers jump to six and 17.
So, do I need to make the car stand out or is it time for a sleeper?

no better way to make a sleeper than make it look like something everybody expects to be slow and a characture of itself.
granted, that may not translate out of rural, southern America. around here weve got a couple of stupid fast Hondas, that look like clapped out ricers. judging by the way they run, id put them at legit 11 second street cars. maybe faster. but to look at them, youd point, laugh, and call them ricers that wannabe stancetards.

The girlfriend threatened me with domestic discord should I do anything too ostentatious. Question answered, I guess. Actually, I can find some nice 16X7.5 wheels off the Sonata-ish luxo barges that will both look innocent and allow me to run big tires. I also think I can run a complete turbo kit and make it look factory. Flatbottoms are hard to see, the factory seats are supportive enough for now. The brakes are four wheel discs now and plenty big. And suspension stuff, well, it's simply not going to get lowered.
