gotta love the junkyard

Went on a salvage run to get a "new" caliper for my saab. Sadly somebody beat me to all 4 on the only NG900 in the yard... but I did score a working Red Ignition cassette for my turbo for only $20

I absolutley love the salvage yard. I am just waiting for it to get above 5 degrees here and for the two feet of snow to melt.

I just pull out a LS2 out of a Florida junk yard 22k miles only 550 worth the risk I think..... Its going into a 1985 944 with a T-5 6 speed behind it

I am almost tempted to go back and grab the 2.3 that the DI came off of

I found a junkyard in ohio that had 150 chevettes. I called them to get a few things and they told me they crushed all but 12. I wish I could go buy all of them and see how many good ones I could build.

I'm sure you have your reasons, but why would you upset the balance of the car with a T-5 6speed instead of the torque tube and rear mounted transaxle?

http://www.porschehybrids.com has plenty of info on how to retain the stock Audi 5-speed used in the 944's and how to get a cheap LSD for them as well, plus changing the ratio of 5th gear to better match the V8, etc.

I found a 240sx with Tein coilovers, 5 lug hubs already using extended lugs and a Viscous LSD. Epic find, since my 240sx was on stock struts with tein springs, wimpy 4 lug hubs and open diff. Sold my wimpy old springs for $100 on the intrawebs.

Tein coilovers: $150 5 Lug hubs: $120 VLSD: $70 junkyard cover charge: $2

been going back to the two closest junkyards at least once a week since then.

Its too bad you are not closer mad_machine, the P-N-P here has a NG900 with all of the brake parts still on it. I grabbed the wheels for my snow tires and some odds and ends this weekend.

Chevettes are not bad cars, they have bad reputations. Most have been abused because they were cheap, thats why most are in bad shape.

They weren't necessarily good, but at the time they were made, they were as good as everything else in their price range.

Remember, those were the days when cardboard headliners were acceptable. Even Toyota had them in some of their cars.

I took my drivers' ed test in a Chevette. It was either that or an extended 3/4 ton Dodge Van. We tried to kill both vehicles, but they just kept going. Rust got the van, another car killed the Chevette.

Junkyards. What are these junkyards of which you speak? Around here there are only overpriced "used parts suppliers" with surly counter people. There isn't a place within a hundred miles of here that will let you out in the yard any more.

My local junkyard only has two FCs and one GC8 wagon and both have been raided of any major parts already. Even so, it's nice to find the little odds and ends missing from my cars when I go there, like a rubber clutch pedal cover for my Subaru and fuse box cover and decent interior panel clips for my FC.

We are fortunate to have several self service yards around here. I've seen all sorts of stuff.
I recently scored an old school Zender MK1 Rabbit roof spoiler for $18.

I stop by so often all the people working there know me.

Just a note but the T5 is a 5 speed the T56 is a 6 speed

I think it's a regular Impreza wagon, but when I get a chance I'll check it again. It won't be anytime this week- its supposed to snow another foot.

I always say "GC8" when referring to 93-01 Imprezas because my two-door's chassis code is "GMC:" GM for the two-door and C for the 2.2L engine. I'd rather not explain to everyone why my GMC is also a Subaru.

It took my wife a while to figure out why I really love our place. I can shop our local junkyards with a good pair of binoculars. Also have dairy farms and power plant, but Laguna Seca is only 20 mi away!
