Actually, I change my answer. Wally is right, but I don't think that'll be enough. Wizard/barbarian mural or go home.

I think I like it better without the roof rack too, although I'm not sure how easy that is to remove, or what's left behind once it's gone.
very nice!
Now just paint/vinyl the lower rocker black, and its ready to rock with a better set of wheels and maybe a livery-inspired pinstripe!
In reply to Robbie :
I actually think both the E36 above and the Vibe look much better with body colored rockers. The dark rockers make them look like base models wearing flood pants.

I... I like that way more than I should. The want is real.
Normally I hate black or dark wheels, but there is one type of car that looks great with them, that's small or mid size wagon/mini van type shapes. I think it would look great in stormtrooper colors. White, black roof and black wheels. I've seen a few Ford C-Max's like that and think it would work on a Vibe too.

fair enough, I do understand manufacturers usually add 'body-colored moulding' as a probably high profit margin option on most cars, meaning that cars with black will tend to be lower models. On mirrors and bumpers, I agree that body color is usually better. the e36 example is heavily influenced by the quality of photo and the wheels too (though I'm sure you've seen both in person too).
I still think the dark rockers has the visual effect of making the car look shorter (or proportionally longer), meaning you see less of the giant minivan panel doors.
In reply to Robbie :
Darker trim on the bottom of a light-colored car does reduce the amount of vertical mass (the slab-sided "minivan panel door" look that you mention), but it also makes the vehicle appear to ride higher off the ground, which implies off road capability. It's why Volvo, Audi, Subaru, etc all add it when they lift a wagon into a Cross/Tour/Alltrack thing.
Body colored lower trim can add mass, but it also makes it appear lower to the ground, which implies on-road performance capability.
The best solution is to remove the cladding all together, and lower the vehicle to the desired height, but manufacturers aren't going to do that when sticking stuff on the sides is much cheaper.

A reproduction of the Can Am logo on the back tail gate might tie the whole thing together (or might be more trouble than its worth)
This would sort of give you one foot in the Toyota Camp and one foot in the Pontiac Camp...ala..Pontiac VIbe!

I agree with you 100%, but I actually think the bigger driver of how low or high from the ground a vehicle appears is the distance from the top of the wheel to the bottom of the fender.
EDIT: maybe that is why the off road versions also usually have dark fenders, making that 'gap' look larger than it is!
p.s. Look at us! We are 3 pages in making serious progress on helping a pontiac vibe look good; teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Reminds me of my younger brothers van in the 70's. I thought it looked like a balloon clown should drive it to show up at kids birthday parties.

Expanding on the "formula" stripe idea, this could be neat along the rockers. I wouldn't do silver on a white car though.
Or if you want to avoid text, something like this could be done too. Although if you did this, I'd leave the C pillar body color for the little "tail" of fthe stripe to accent a bit.

That is the best looking 2nd gen xB I have ever seen.
Here's a quick sketch of my idea, crossbred with the Frisbee stripes above. Or it could go on the line from the rocker panels.
In reply to MadScientistMatt :
Haha! You got both the Pontiac AND the Toyota influence there!
+1 GRM point!

I approve. I would trim the end of the yellow stripe along the line of the top of the quarter window, but that's a minor quibble.
In reply to Duke :
You mean leave the white roofline and do not wrap it across the top of the hatch?
In reply to SVreX :
I think he means he would follow the arc that forms the top of the windows, and continue it across the C pillar, and cut the top of the stripe where it would meet that arc.
More like this, only executed better
