On the way in to work this morning, I thought I heard a funny sound coming from the radio. Turn the volume down and...nope,.. its the engine knocking. Everytime I rev it, its knocking away. As I get close to the office, its running on three cylinders. For several weeks, I've been loosing coolant and been unable to determine where its going. I isn't going out the exhaust and I cannot see a leak. I can smell it near the TBI or thermostat housing., It has also started using some oil. I can't tell where the oil is going either. Its not leaking and not going out the exhaust.
Looks like time to pull the engine.

Eh, turn the radio back up
So, the coolant fairy is stealing it for someone else?
brick, throttle, video camera.
wait for the bang.
do it over the grass or gravel, though, as its tough to get the stains out of concrete.
what kind of car?
1986 Nissan D-21 Kingcab.
I wouldn't be so bummed, but I put new tires on it last summer, a new battery last month and finally got a shimmy to go away by replacing a bent wheel last week. Its my daily driver, 350k+ miles and I am the only owner.
I was talking with a co-worker at lunch about it and it got me to thinking it could be a valve issue. Same co-worker ran over a recap on the way yesterday and knocked a hole in his radiator. He went to get his dad's pickup and the alternator was not working. So watch out, the bad luck is going around.
Wow, is the 350k miles on the original motor? Sounds like you got a good life out of it.

No lifters. OHC and rocker arms. But I sure am hoping something valvish.
Oh well. Went to leave work today and the truck had no power and ran rough as hell. I'll have to have it towed home and dig into it.
