Common thread on here is that certain vehicles are always suggested as "the answer" to any given question. Curious as to who here have never owned any of these vehicles, which (in my perception) are the following:

Something with an LS;

Something with a Rotary;

A Miata;

A P71;

A Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon;

A diesel pickup/SUV;

(insert any other "answers" that I may have forgotten)

And if not, is it because you don't personally consider any of these "the answer?" Is it because you just want to be different? Is it because you consider something else to be the ultimate "answer" in various categories (track car, engine swap, tow rig, etc)? Or is it because you actually want all these things and can't afford any of them or some other reason?

Anyhow, thought it would be an interesting discussion.

I'll start off since I have never owned any of these, and with my justifications:

LS: never been in my budget and/or have never had a car that I think would be improved with an LS for my purposes with the car (admittedly, I only have had a few cars that could be LS-swapped anyhow)

Rotary: I like low torque and have hated the sound of every rotary car I've ever heard.

Miata: I love sitting in them and driving them. I hate the looks and have litte interest in owning a convertible of any kind.

P71: Just not interested in driving a car that big unless it's a truck

Suburban: I know they're the best SUV tow rigs out there. I never liked driving any I've driven, don't like the interiors or seats in any I've been in, and (most importantly) our truck is my wife's DD and she doesn't like them for one reason or another so that pretty much settles it.

Diesel: I'd love a diesel tow rig. I don't tow enough to justify owning one.

I have not owned any of those and I really have no desire to own any of them.

Something with an LS; Too new for anything in my fleet. If I had good reason to buy a vehicle that could have an LS in it as an option, I would be choosing that option.

Something with a Rotary; No reason or desire to own one.

A Miata; No reason or desire to own one. Have driven one, fantastic little car that needs 100 more HP.

A P71; Haven't owned one yet but a used cop car sounds like fun.

A Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon; Nope, need my truck to be good at truck things, not van things.

A diesel pickup/SUV; Yup, own a Powerstroke Ford and a Big Block Ford.

You forgot to have a minivan on there since so many people on here manage to convince themselves that they need a minivan rather than a SUV or station wagon.

We had a Chrysler minivan once. I've never owned a Chryco product since.

I've learned that the correct answer for me is a big block or diesel 3/4-ton, crew-cab, long-box, single rear wheel truck with a gooseneck hitch and a square receiver.

This lets me carry my slide-in camper, carry more than two people, carry my two big dogs, haul my motorcycle, haul any of the trailers I use at work, haul my wife's horse trailer, haul all my home improvement gak and be cheap to buy used and cheap to maintain.

Other people have different answers.

Oh, and the answer to "Miata" is "motorcycle".

Not I. Possibly though by the end of next year depending on how SWMBO's post grad residency applications go.

Hopefully either a miata or an FC Rx5.0

I have owned none of the above.

Something with an LS; Too new/not a Chrysler product. I'd buy a newer Hemi car before an LS powered car

Something with a Rotary; just not a fan

A Miata; I've considered it, but I'm too attached to my 80s Chrysler E36 M3boxes

A P71; I'd rather own a old Diplomat or Gran Fury cop car

A Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon; because minivan.

A diesel pickup/SUV; Don't want to pay the diesel tax on buying a Cummins truck, you know Dodge and stuff.

Nope on all fronts unless 88-92 Mazda 626/MX-6 Turbo cars get added in, which might happen, but until then no.

Never owned an answer. S197 is talked about enough around here that it might just become an answer car at some point, and I own two of those.

Made an offer on a Miata once. Me and the owner couldn't come to terms. Bought the CRX that became my $2003 Challenge car the next day.

I own a 2002 Silverado Crew Cab, which is close to your SUV list but isn't. With the 8.1, it's also close to your diesel, but isn't.

No desire to own a P71 unless it still has the light bar and I have a good and free lawyer.

I've never owned anything with an LS. Never owned a diesel or P71 or minivan. Never owned a Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon but did own a K5 Blazer with a 6-cylinder.

Miata is what got me here. Originally bought an inexpensive Miata as a fun economy car to drive to/from work because the truck I had got to expensive to feed petrol to. Then I found autocross and GRM. Also have an rotary(RX8) now also.

LS-powered: Yep. Wanna buy it?

Rotary-powered: Yep, and never, EVER again.

Miata: Yep, and it was fine, just not my cup of tea.

None of the others in the original post, but plenty of Ford trucks and one Ford SUV.

Other "answers" would include the E30 (got one), and the Jeep XJ (don't have one, but my son might soon).

I'd say around here, the e30 and e36 could be included in the list of "answers".

Interesting. I have an e30 and it's always struck me personally as being a good answer (that or an e36), but I always get the feeling that there's a big proportion of people here that really hate the e30 (aside from the M3) for one reason or another (usually because it's not a Miata, or not an e36). Maybe just my perception though. Or could be because the newest e30 is well over 20 years old now so its hard to see what is essentially a "classic" as an answer at this point.

Something with an LS; - Nope

Something with a Rotary; - No, but I have considered an RX7 for rally-X, but they aren't common up here and people seem to want a mint.

A Miata; - Nope - I am 6'4" and I drove a Triumph Spitfire once. I figure the experience would be similar.

A P71; - No desire in the least.

A Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon; - My dad had an old school 77 - Does that count?

A diesel pickup/SUV; - No diesel. Buy-in too many $$$$'s

I have owned what seems to be the "anti-answer" on this board - a 2002 Subaru WRX - and I will own another one before I take a dirt nap. Most fun vehicle I have ever owned.

Looks like I've owned a couple "answers"

Something with an LS; Had a 2004 GTO, great GT car, stupid gas tank taking up half the trunk sucks.

Something with a Rotary; Nope, spinning triangles and apex seals scare me.

A Miata; Nope, looks ugly and needs 50 more hp for me to be interested.

A P71; An overweight, under powered land barge.. no thanks.

A Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon; Close, K1500 pickup.

A diesel pickup/SUV; The very same K1500, Diesel, Manual and 4x4

I've done the rotary route...twice. Still like them, still have them.

I did have a diesel Dodge 4x4 I bought as a project. It was killed when a dump truck decided to fall on it. I never even got to start the project.

I'm looking at full size cars now and have checked out the P71s. I'm probably more of a Grand Marquis or Town Car person. If I'm going to do luxobarge, it's got to have the luxo.

The rest come under, interesting, but not enough to go out and look for one. If one fell in my lap for stupid money, I'd probably buy it and drive it until it was time for something else.

Something with an LS - nope, but I have a Solstice GXP that could easily fit one

Something with a Rotary - yep, '89 RX-7 GTU; needed more torque but a sweet-revving engine

A Miata - yep, two of 'em; fantastic handling cars, a bit smaller than I ultimately wanted

A P71 - nope, no desire

A Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon - nope, but may yet; I'll need a tow vehicle eventually and these are cheap to pick up and maintain

A diesel pickup/SUV - nope, but strongly considered a diesel Q5 for a bit

If S2000 or WRX ever becomes "an answer", then those have been covered.

I have owned precisely dick on that list, though I have owned both a turbo mx6 and a xj Cherokee.

Something with an ls- I've shockingly only ever owned one v8 in my life and its a Mopar 318. An ls CSR that I want hasn't presented itself.

A rotary? I kept trying to buy my brothers old gslse, but I saw it recently and its terminal, I can't rescue that one. Been trashed one too many times.

Miata? Simple. I don't fit.

P71? I'm waiting for the right one to cross my desk.

Suburban? More of a ford person, waiting for the right excursion. Would be opposed to a 3/4 ton big block burb though.

Diesel commands a 10k premium, I'll stick with the gas hogs no one wants.

I've had 4 rotaries, including my first car, a 1973 Mazda RX-2, but I'm not sure that counts as an Answer vehicle. My others were an RX-3 Wagon and two different RX-2 race cars. So I guess I'm out of the running.

I've had two '96 Miatas, but none of the others. I don't really get the love for the P71. I guess I see too many at work to ever be around one in my private life.
