How I miss slot car racing

I wish you were closer than Dayton, my oldest and I have gotten into those but we don't set the track up that often.

There's one guy that shows up every week, never in a good mood. Always grumpy and bitching because someone's not resetting his car fast enough (even if he's not exactly quick as a marshal either), bitches at his kid of about 12-13yrs about everything...

I wish I could remind him he's playing with toy cars, for fun not profit (unless you count the 3 Hobby Bucks if you win and 1 Hobby Buck for second), and as you can see about 1/2 the attendees are children.

As a kid about 13, I made that same guy throw his car against a wall after beating him. Badly. They had three mains, C, B and A. If you won your main, you got to move up into the next main. That night, I won C, then B, and got second in A. Dude was seriously mad, and a great role model for a 13 year old!

every so often somebody opens up a track around here.. and within a year, they are gone. It's a shame.

They do the same C B A Main thing here. Last night I won 2nd in the B Main. My first race I kept coming off in a weird spot on one corner, like EVERY lap. And not even where you'd expect to come off with too much speed (which at first is what I thought I did, we were racing a no-magnet class). Then one lap I finally just stopped at that spot, didn't come off. I hit the trigger again and the back wheels just spun!

Turned out someone had lost a mirror and it got jammed into the slot, and I was hitting the damn thing every lap.

Many years ago (like 20) I went to a car club meeting held at a hobby shop with a slot car track. This one was custom built with high banked turns. The cars used were also custom built and went so fast that you only saw blurs as then went by. I wonder if that shop is still in business?

Here's the first 3 lol. I bought the McLaren for a few magnet classes, the Subaru for a no magnet class, and had the Crown Royal car from an auction already.

Bought the Citroen for a more powerful no magnet class.

And this guy because duh! It also works in a powerful magnet unlimited class. They're all various manufacturers, Scalextric, NSR, Ninco, ...
