The pad test in this month was fab, thanks. A recent thread here, and the steady increase in oem form and fit aftermarket rotors has me wanting to know what the potential performance benefits, drawbacks, brilliance, and bang for buck ratios might be associated with these offerings. I am personally intrigued with the offerings from Disk Brakes Australia as optimizing the centrifugal pump that vented rotors represent makes much sense to me having worked extensively in fan design and thermal managment. But, would I be wasting my money?

Autozone cheapies, Brembo, Zimmerman, Power Slot, drilled, precision ground, cast with holes, slotted, ground with happy faces: there are many many choices, and a zillion interweb opinions. I would love to do a comparo with, umm, lets say, a civic and a recent mustang with everything remaining constant except the rotors and publish the results here put I am Ill equipped for the task.

Thnaks!

Glad you enjoyed the article, and there was a ton of behind-the-scenes work for Per on that one.

In reply to Shaun:

As far as rotors, I did thermal analysis comparing slotted, cross-drilled and plain. And from a thermal standpoint with everything else being the same, slotted or cross drilled aren't worth it. Although the cast iron being used may change things. Unfortunately I hadn't got to do brake dyno test to compare more then just the thermal properties of the rotors.

Huh, that's interesting! Always wondered.

I'm actually thinking about putting smaller disks on my Celica to save weight. It's an autocross car, so the brakes shouldn't ever get very hot.

I'm headed the opposite direction on the CRX ... it's as much a track day car as an autocross car... and the itty-bitty 9" rotors and the OEM calipers tend to give up by the 3rd day on a set of pads... they don't wear evenly (front to rear ) ( floating calipers ) so by mid-wear on the pads I start having to pump the pedal as I approach a corner to pull the pads back against the rotor... then they're great .... but it tends to upset anyone that's riding with me
