What a neat project! I admire you taking it on and wish you success. Well beyond anything I could pull off. Really amazing to me what folks on here can do.

What? It really flows well with the lines of the car... or something.

Those are cool little cars.

A 13B rotary is plenty short enough to fit. Use a Miata or 2nd gen RX7 center section and do an IRS, use Miata brakes... then hang the eff on.

Keep the engine Honda. I vote goldwing. Some have reverse and they are already shaft drive.

The irony is that the S600 was chain drive.

(Yeah, I know those bits are gone from this car. But still: IRONY)

I wonder if a new porked-out Goldwing or Valkyrie is lighter or heavier than an S600. It could probably go either way.

It is one of those Dart based ones. A Pioneer I think. Rather like this. This guy has a lot of cool toys.

late 40s Ford pickup, AMC Javelin, Fargo van/truck thing.

Yes the 808 is gone sadly. I sold it to the dealership I bought a new Mazda 2 from. Wife has been nagging me for years to get a new "reasonable" car. The dealer is restoring the 808 at least.

Those Goldwing motors looks quite wide - interesting though.

According to the internet the S600 is 1576 lbs

Another vote for a 13B. I just can't imagine the engine bay having room for much more than that, and with all the "off the shelf" RX-7/Miata stuff that bolts up it would be an easy way to build a car that you can still buy drivetrain parts for at O-Reilly's if you have to.

4 cylinder? Easy to source?

G13B?

Hell, G10 Turbo! Should fit within that engine bay that is probably as large as a postage stamp...

Might be a little pricey. But it's in the family and stupid awesome.

The S2000 conversion has been done a few times. I can't imagine spending a couple thousand bucks on an engine for a $500 car though.

Here is a nice work in progress - http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2399761

If you remove the hood thing carefully and then make another one that matches it, your box flare needs for the rear wheels are totally taken care of, more or less.

Glad I could help.

Yea, it would be silly.

13B is my vote.

13B sounds about perfect for that tiny of a car, especially if you wanna stay challenge-legal. That should leave you plenty of dough for other performance parts (e.g. suspension and wheels). Alternatively, a Miata drivetrain might be nice (but harder to do on a Challenge budget.

3TC with 5 speed for like a hundred bucks? Plus, they look pretty.

I <3 the 13B or bike engine idea - one of the main features of the S500/S600/S800 was the crazy revving motor so I'd put something similar in there.

Its not quite Honda, but I'll say Suzuki is close enough- Find a 1300 (did they have a 1600 too?) twincam from one of the hotrod Swift variants, swap on the front to back oil pan and a 5 speed from an SJ413, enjoy. I'd bet the diff might be close to the right width, too, although it would need some bracket building done. You are in the right country for Suzuki truck bits, too.

I think Zomby woof might be a source of info if this idea appeals to you.

G13B from Swift GTI/GT. Head can be mated to the larger G16 blocks if you want.
