OK, the weight of my Capri.
Getting ready to send it out for paint, and I'm considering pulling off the front crossmember and all of the front and rear suspension. It's so close to being completely stripped anyway, might as well do it right.
Any guesses as to what the shell would weigh?
I'm trying to figure out how I can move it around in the shop and get it onto a trailer without buying a pre-made body dolly.
(Car is a 1977 Ford Capri)
No idea, but I'll bet you can bolt a couple of 4x4s under it and lag some casters to the wood. Roll it around readily afterwards.
400lbs. What's the prize for the winner?
Seriously though, stripped to a bare shell I'm confident 4 people could pick it up and load it on the trailer if you bolt a couple boards underneath to grab onto.

Me and 5 friends just dragged a Miata shell 100 feet from the trailer to my worktable and it was a grunt. I would guess about 400 lbs is right. Steal a few skateboards.

Go buy a couple of these, modify them if needed and roll the shell where ever you want it.

Are we doing this "Price is Right" style?(closest without going over)

I have an 88 Thunderbird unibody on a regular pallet with 6 hardware store casters screwed in. Works fine, and that car should be way heavier than your Capri.

Yes, but I'm guessing at least 50% has rusted away by this point.
Are we going by the "Price is Right" rule where the one closest to the target number without going over is the winner?
I'm going to say 710.
This place is awesome and hilarious. Thanks for the input.
I found a few homemade car body dolly's online, and I might go that route. I was just hoping that 4 guys could lift the empty shell, and it seems like we should be able to.

You need bigger friends.
No kidding, I think we moved my Miata shell with three people. And HF furniture dollies are the bomb, as long as you don't slip off them.
I'm going for 750 with the doors, 800 with the glass. Thats about what a TR7 shell weighs when I scrap them.

NoHome's shop is in his backyard, across grass. Dollies wouldn't work, so it had to be carried , or dragged.

Seriously. A full keg weighs 160lbs, and I can get one out of my truck, up the front steps, and navigate it through the house on a skate board by myself. Four people should be able to handle a bare shell with ease.

I am thinking you may have a different motivation for succeeding with the keg.

Note the lack of dollies and the drag marks. Grass is slippery if you get it wet We also dragged it out of another garage and threw it on a trailer to get it here.
