I'm sure I wouldn't be able to afford the V8 version. And the V6 did come with a manual for a few years.
I love the way look, oooze class. I keep trying to be realistic about how I'm going to use a car and I just don't think I'll ever spend the money/time to really go to the track like I used to.
I haven't looked into them a whole lot yet, because I figured starting here, y'all can give me the big stuff that would make me really want to look deeper or just move on.
I may or may not be starting to itch to get something since I haven't had a car since March.

I haven't seen any cheap enough to seriously consider.
The one I drove understeered like a pig, but it was the 4wd v8 variant.
For the price you can get a c6 vette and maybe even a z06. A friend got one of those v6 jags. It was the cheapest he could find and was the same price as my z06
Fun you mention this. The F type manual has had significant appreciation in the last couple months. Might be to late to jump on them as cheap as they were.
I would not kick a manual R out of bed for eating crackers but I have not done a good price shop since the jump.
Well, there are currently 8 listed on Autotrader with manual transmissions. Cheapest is a 2016 with 86K miles for $32K. Otherwise in the 40's or 50's.
Is a Vette cheaper and offer more performance? Yes.
Is a Vette a Jaguar? No.
Buy one, I had neighbours who always had one car. Once the kids moved out the SUV was replaced with a F Type as the only car and therefore daily.
I drove a V8 S auto when they were brand new at PIR on an autocross course. The auto will auto shift even in full manual mode and it understeered like a pig. The interior was LOVELY. I got to ride in a V6 SC one later and it was far better balanced. The manual V6 might be the sweet spot. It's no track king, but it will be a rewarding drive and really nice place to spend some time. I would go drive one for sure.
Do it. You know there may be an after market option to add a supercharger.
With that kind of budget I'd be looking at Boxsters and Caymans too. Drive them all. I'd also shop a new Miata.
FWIW, the R with the auto was just fine. Not a Miata but a really fast cruiser--and that exhaust note....

Yeah, I'd love a 2012-2016 Boxster S as well.
Im hoping by the time I really want to buy (next Spring/Summer) prices on used cars will have come back out of space.
I have a bonus coming in June then another in August, so if I can be patient......
One of my dream cars. An F Type R. I think 2015 were rwd only. I wouldn't buy it expecting high level track performance but they're are one of the best looking 2 seaters ever made (in my opinion) and they sound absolutely glorious. That is THE sub 100k car for me.
I'm too new into the ownership experience to have comments but I bought this recently for my wife. It's pretty mental.

Yep, they are gorgeous cars.
Anyone know about reliability or known issues and such?

This Jaaaag forum is active has helped me tremendously with my XJR owenership.
This link to their F-Type page should answer your questions about any known issues.
And because everyone loves pics, here are a few amazing ones:
I love the way they look and check prices every few months....still well and truly out of my price range for the V6 manual I'd want. This is one of the few new cars I bothered to look at the online configurator for when they were new.
The few I've seen in person always strike me as smaller than they look in pictures. They are great looking cars. I actually like the newest styling update with the horizontal headlights even more, but no manual trans and most seem to be AWD
It's interesting that some Aston Martin models are actually in a similar price bracket and have similar styling.
The Ftype and especially the FtypeR is an amazingly gorgeous car. And damn did they NAIL the exhaust note. Oof. I might even pick one over a vette. Might.
I've wanted to own an F-type convertible, V6, with a manual trans for a while now. Preferably in white. But I can not really rationalize it. So I support whoever can rise up and do it themselves because they seem like an amazing package.

Thanks for the links. Unfortunately, the "known issues" thread. Isn't really that. It's just a list of individual problems, individual owners have had.
It's not like, for example with E90 M3s. You need to be aware rod bearings, throttle body servos, etc. Because it's a known problem, not "They installed the wrong tire pressure sensor in my car."
In reply to z31maniac :
I know a few F type R owners and they seem to never complain about big issues. They don't seem to have issues that must be resolved before you can enjoy them. I swear the biggest complaints are lack of manual transmission and understeer.

I admit, I did not read that thread I linked, because, well the F-type isn't anywhere near possible with my budget for a car. The comments you observed there (only minor flaws revealed), along with yupididit's observations, would support the conclusion that the cars don't have major problems showing up as a pattern at this point in their life cycle.
There a few of these around me. The sound plus the look, they are one of my favorite new cars, an AM Vantage is right there with it.
I would own one as a trophy wife, maybe not great at everything, but man look at her.
