One other thing I just learned from looking at the Hagerty price guide is that Hagerty will insure a non-DD S2000.

Oh, and they now give an SCCA discount, too.

That smug grin is the grin of someone who just halved the annual insurance premium on one of his toys. So GRM indirectly saved me some extra money, too.

I've got a 235,000 mile s2000. It hits 9000rpm every  time I'm it.  It's not pretty, but I love it.

Neither does a C5 Z06 'Vette but that doesn't mean it's not a better performer than an S2000 in the points of horsepower and torque.

The place the S2000 tends to kill the Boxster (and 'Vette) is basic automotive reliablility. My experience with them indicates they will hold up better as cars. The Boxster will out handle one and the Vette is much faster in terms of straightline performance. All three of them are in a similar price point right now. Any would be a gratifying vehicle to have in my garage...

It's the best angle.  Here is a bonus photo of the top end.  I replaced the spring retainers as a safety measure when I bought it. Found several cracked ones.

My 2006 has been insured by Hagerty for the last 3 years smiley . Sadly I think I drove it less than 100 miles in that time.

I probably drove less than 51 :(.
I purchased the car new in February of 2006, by December of that year it had 35k miles. It now has 59k miles. The first of three kids was born in December of 2006 ...

I did drive it from Fl to California and back, and twice to the dragon.

Funny our stories are similar. I bought my AP2 new in Pacific Honda in San Diego. Did clear bra that day, drove it to sf and Sacramento to get the 600 mile break in done. Put 18 k miles that year. In last 11 years put another 1500 miles. Sitting at 19,781 now.

A local search within the vicinity of GRM HQ didn't bring back a lot of results for available S2000s for sale at the moment. AP1s from the $6-9k range and AP2s from the $10-25k range based on mileage.

I would like to agree that the price creep is only on the CRs; however, low mileage examples are still fetching a pretty decent premium. AP1s unfortuneatly aren't reaping the rewards but finding a clean example is becoming pretty hard to do.

I spent more than I should have on my S2000 three years ago because it was the only clean example I had found in the 12+ months I had been looking. It was a one owner car, with an accident, but man was it clean for a car with 118k miles on it. I just eclipsed the 130k mark and have no plans of getting rid of it. I've slowly been restoring the aged and worn parts on it (just got newer carpet and a steering wheel out of a wrecked 08 that only had 40k miles on it....that was a sweet find, especially for the red plastic clips that are impossible to find). I haven't looked back at the price and I've been happy with my purchase ever since. I cross shopped with Miatas and Boxsters and neither one of those had the same feel nor the same redline as the S2K plus you see those everywhere.

As someone else mentioned Honda only made ~66k examples. That's about as many F-150s that are sold in a given month.

Where are you finding $6k-$9k AP1s? Even a fairly rough one would get my mom's rusty Miata sent off to Lemons.

I was a long-bred Corvette/Camaro/Chevelle kid in my first trip to the Detroit Auto show in college. I was impressed with them then, sat in one and loved it. I wanted one then, and I still do.

And the reliability comes because these weren’t built in a place where workers are continually reminded about quality.  There’s no need.  It’s built into the culture.  Ingrained.  I often joke that on the streets of Nagoya you’ve got a better shot at finding a million dollars in a paper sack than you do of finding a vending machine or crossing signal button that doesn’t work.

Can't compare a S2000 to a Miata.  Different cars for different markets.  And due to the low volume of S2000s they will hold their prices better.  But none of this is news.  (Fake news?  wink)

And in the area near me S2000s are as follows.

2006 S2000 120k miles $14,500 Baltimore

2002 S2000 122k miles $13,000 Eastern Shore

2004 S2000 90k miles (mods) $19,000 Fort Belvoir

2005 S2000 25k miles $24,850 West Berlin NJ

Just for the record.
