I plan on attempting to check the Duc valves and do a valve grind. I have none of these tools. I need the hand to grind the valves, along with the paste and accurate calipers to check the valve stems.

By hand you can only lap them in to place.  most real parts stores with have valve lapping compound and the sticks with suction cups.  Problem is you end up with a very wide seat.  Non of my Auto valve stuff works on my bikes....  I'm forced to send it out.  :(

Stem to guide clearance you check in the head at 3 spots min  .050 off seat at mid lift and .050 before max lift.  Checked by putting an indicator on the valve face and try to wiggle the valve. you find the stems and the guides wear in some odd shapes when plotted.

So you recommend sending the heads out? My duc repair book shows hand lapping. I am going to pull the valves out to check for wear (stem lengthening/thinning) and overall condition since I have to replace the studs.

Disassemble if you've got the right tools clean and inspect then decide from there but yes send out if the seat is wider then spec of you find guide or stem wear out of spec.

Make sure you keep all the part with the same location and valve together as it will make life easier to get it all back together and in spec. for clearances.

the guys over on Ducati.MS might have better more local guys to help if you run in to problems
