Like a hunter in the woods hearing the footsteps of a deer. Like an ornithologist hearing the distant call of the Whip-poor-wil. Like a mother hearing her baby sneeze, I heard it today. The unmistakable sound of screaming engines, open exhausts, and wailing tires.
I had no idea my town had autocross events and I've lived three miles away from it for 3 years.
re-hooked. Jeez I gotta get my LeMans done.
Three miles! There are occasional events that close to me, but more typical is being glad if it's within an hour.
I found an event close to me soon after I found this site less than a year ago. Unfortunately, it was also just about the time they lost the ex Army airstrip they were using. I did hear they did get it back, but I missed a couple events by not knowing that. Then Covid came along... Not sure what the do now.
I am running tomorrow with the Willamette Motor Club in the Mini.
45min away in McMinnville
Rescheduled from previous date due to heavy smoke (bad air)
Now I'm going down the rabbit hole of chapters and regions. Looks like my region has two chapters. I'm Susquehanna region, and we used to have an Appalachian chapter here in Harrisburg but it went inactive due to falling membership in 2012. The other chapter is in Lancaster which is about 30-40 minutes.
Do I join the Lancaster chapter, or can I join the region/national and be eligible for both? or all?
Open exhaust at an autocross? I thought they generally had a 92db sound limit.
Did you find any half-eaten cones and tyre droppings too? That's how you know that they'll be back.
Susquehanna and Blue Ridge are both solid regions. As an scca member you can enter events for any region. You should head down to BMC events as well.
Oh E36 M3, you were at the Susquehanna region event on Elmerton Ave? I was racing the red FC RX7, class XSA #11. Big event yesterday (for us anyway), we had a lot of out of towners, plus it was a joint event with NEPA. Made for a long day, but couldn't have asked for nicer weather.
Come on out and race, we'd love to have you. As far as chapters are concerned, Susquehanna will definitely be your local region. I'm not aware of any active club in Lancaster, although we did run there a few times last year. Not that it matters much anyway, you just need an SCCA membership (you can even get a weekend membership for $15, although it's more cost effective to just pay the ~$80 for the year) and you can run with any region and compete in as many events as you care to attend.
Aside from the joint events with NEPA at Pocono (which I cannot recommend enough, btw), we've run all of our events this year at that Elmerton lot, which is new for us this year. Used to run down the hill and across Cameron St at the main Farm Show lot, which was a great venue, but they stopped letting us run there two years ago, ostensibly because they wanted to repave it (still haven't.) Elmerton has been good though.
Last events of the season are 10/31 and 11/1, you're more than welcome to come take a ride along with me.

Plus DC, Philly, NEPA, Central Penn...
You can do a lot of autocrossing within a couple hours drive of this area. I really need to get out and run more out of region events.

Were you sitting on the tail of it? Beard? I saw an RX but didn't pay attention to much else.
I'll likely still be on the way back from the challenge, but if I'm back in time, count me in

I'm going to set up a tree stand just to the west of the droppings.

Yup, that was me. Probably around 3pm or so?
Yup. 3:30 ish. I had just finished up a project at the theater and stopped by my garden plot when I heard all of you making noise through the trees.
I walked by with a pretty lady, but you seemed focused on the track.

That was almost certainly Susquehanna Region. They had an event yesterday.
I think we're sold out, but you can come watch BMC at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen MD next Saturday. You can meet DD#1 who is now autocross chair. I'll give you a run in the Manic Miata.
Good to see you're coming to the Challenge, Curtis!
I'll be working the autocross on Friday.

Eh, probably more just spaced out and staring off into space...it had been a long day already by that point.
Now that I think about it, I do recall seeing your truck there. I was checking out the 928 parked next to it.
Yep, that was me. Did you notice an oil puddle when I left?
I love it when a GRM "Plan" comes together....

It's actually turned out to be a pretty decent venue, although you wouldn't guess it from looking at Google. Grid and paddock are in the upper 2/3 portion of the big lot with the grass strips. The lot lends itself to some interesting course layouts, using that lower 1/3 of the main lot down into that panhandle on the lower left. FTD is usually 45-50 second range, give or take. Surface is pretty smooth.
