I am still clueless how classing works. I have a 1997 BMW M3 with coilovers, everything else is stock.

Coilovers throw me off and have no clue where my car would fall in classing. Trying to get more involved and frustrated that I cant find any information with this.

Someone else will chime in for sure, but isn't there a ST(can't remember if it is STX or STU) class that the E36 M3 goes into.

What series are you running in?

I assumed scca, I probably shouldn't have assumed.

The coilovers bump you into the Street Touring class, but that's good because you can run real street tires there. The E36 M3 runs in the STU class.

The SCCA rulebook is here: http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517

Your car can be found on page 184 in the 2013 Solo rules. The rules on what mods are allowed in Street Touring start on page 81.

Next year, stock class reverts back to street tires from the presently allowed slicks, but the coilovers still put you into STU.

Ok good point, SCCA. Already a member, although it seems they are pretty weak here in the Tampa Bay area as I cant really find any events here.

The only people that consistently do anything here is FAST. drivefast.org Right now I signed up for an even with them on 10/13 and just did FUN / no class because I just didn't have a clue. (Didn't want to show up in showroom stock and get hounded about the coilovers, etc etc)

After watching the SCCA runoffs I have the obscure goal of participating in the Runoff in 2015 in Daytona. Of course that another topic / how to.

Thanks, but STU doesn't say anything about coil overs. Only Prepared category does. So does STU fall under Prepared?

Coilovers aren't specifically mentioned, but shocks are free per 14.5.B, and springs/ride height are free per 14.8.A. You're good in STU.

SCCA runs events near you in Brooksville, a very cool, huge airport site. The next one is coming up on November 3rd. Contact Dave Welsh (an old friend of mine) at dwelsh56_at_hotmail.com and tell him Jerry sent you.

CFR web site is http://www.cfrsolo2.com.
