Passed it at a gas station today. Couldn’t turn a round.

It was definitely American size, malaise era, creamish white. Had a sort of Monte Carlo aero back design. The front had two square headlights, and absolutely no front grill. Very blunt front end.

I couldn’t see an emblem from traffic, so I don’t know if it was ford or Chevy. But had some styling q’s From that era and those manufacturers. Godspeed.

My guess is that it was a 1977 Malibu which is generally the same car as the Monte Carlo but the Monte had more pronounced fender "flare" while the Malibu had more of a fast back.

In reply to John Welsh :

Too many headlights, this thing only had two huge, square headlights. One in each side of the grilless front. The tail lights were also malaise square ish.

The following year, 1978, GM redesigned the G-body cars.  For a fast back them it may have been a Cutlass Salon.

2 square headlights and 2 square tail lights.

The 1978 Cutlass Supreme was the more popular notchback version but generally the same car.

Maybe a mid to late 70s Toronado.

Those did have a lot of sheet metal in the grille area but too many headlights?

Avanti fits the clues. No grille. Two square headlights. American. Malaise era. Fastbackish.

Do people consider Avantis ugly, though?

I was thinking maybe a '79 Monza? I think there was a version with two big headlights (round, but in square frames) and a version with no grill... but I don't think there was a version that encompassed both of these styling cues.

I was going to say Avanti too, although I think they're kind of cool looking.

Avantis are very ugly. So ugly that they kind of look good.

Not sure about them having two square brakelights though. Also, they would not make anyone think Ford or Chevy, so I bet that’s not it.

Man oh man, there is a lot going on with that last Pontiac. Stylistically, that's at least four cars in one.

It looks like what the people who made Mini-Truckin' magazine might have driven if they'd had access to even better drugs... or maybe worse drugs. It's definitely drug-related.

How could it not be Avanti? They had rectangular tails.
