still trying to figure out what an MS3 is....maybe we should drop all the silly letters and just name the vehicle, no?

They are both pretty amazing cars. I think very thorough test drives of both are in order. If you could arrange that for me I could advise you more accurately.

Heh... In '03, we bought a new V6 Mustang. I tried nudging Mrs RMD into a V8. "Nah, this has plenty of power (193hp)." Two weeks later, "I shoulda got the V8."
The '12 V6 makes more horsepower than that '03 V8.

It makes almost as much power as the '10 V8. Any FWD is out of consideration for me as a performance car. I don't own any.
I've test driven both. The speed 3 has a few more quirks than the mustang. The computer controlled boost is a little frustrating as it's, 'nothing... nothing... hit 3k rpm and HOOOLY S#@$% FULLBOOSTHEREWEGO!' Whereas the mustang has a good amount of torque and likes to rev. I'm sure both cars would greatly benefit from some ecu tuning and better calibration of the throttle by wire.

Cobb AccessPort. Plug in, press some buttons, that pesky boost limit is TOAST. My car is spoolin' at like... 2400rpm.
FWIW, if I didn't need to tow anything and had to buy one 'do it all' car, it would probably be the V6 Mustang. (With a manual transmission. )I mean seriously, 300 HP, decent gas mileage and 130 pounds lighter than the previous V8 car? Plus not having to deal with the FWD handling dynamics that I don't really care for? The only other real choice would probably be the Hyundai Genesis coupe, possibly with the 2.0T although its 3.8 R Spec V6 version is about the same weight/HP as the Mustang.
In reply to Curmudgeon:
Those Genesis coupes are pretty bitchin'. I saw one with their "track pack" and the big honkin' Brembo brakes the other day. Nice cars. Hard to beat the bang for the buck with the 'Stang tho. The Genesis' top hot rod version still has 100hp less than a similar priced Mustang GT.

Doubtful, I only paid $65/month full coverage for my MS3.

And the cheapest car I've ever insured (save the P71) was a V6 Mustang.
In reply to frankenstangsghost:
If you are interested in the Genesis Coupe, I would wait until the 2013 models are available, since both engines are getting significant horsepower upgrades.

Inside Line said: The base engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter direct-injection four-cylinder, now makes 275 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, compared with 210 hp and 223 lb-ft for the 2012 model. The uplevel engine is a 3.8-liter direct-injection V6, which now delivers 350 hp and 295 lb-ft, compared with 306 hp and 266 lb-ft for the outgoing engine.
YMMV on the new front and rear fascias:
The Genesis coupes are total butterfaces. Yeeesh!
I'm going with the 6spd Manual V6 Mustang. We'll see what kind of deal they want to make before the end of the year.
Good decision going w/ the V6 mustang!
...be sure to test drive a mustang gt and sit down w/ the salesperson and work out numbers.. even if your sure it's not an option, just do it
OP, congrats on your choice!
frankenstangsghost, the Genesis coupe is down on power compared to the GT Mustang but it's right in the hunt with the V6 version. The power/weight is comparable too. I think it has less back seat room though. Like you said, the Track Pack version with the big brakes n'all would look good hauling my corpulent carcass.
Rex, I know it isnt, but every time I look at your avatar at a glance, it looks like a Boo from Mario to me.
It's part of this Rageface gauge cluster:

I'll post up some pics when I get the new wheels! White or dark blue... hmmm.
RexSeven wrote: The motor mounts on the MS3 suck and contribute to many of its downsides (sloppy shifter, slightly sloppy steering, wheel hop). Shifter feel on the MS3 can be much-improved easily by adding solid shifter bushings, a better rear motor mount, and better transmission fluid. I went with TWM Motorsports bushings/Custom Performance Engineering RMM/Motul fluid on my '07 MS3. If you go that route, budget $200 and about 1hr.-1hr. 30min. of time.
I went this route and NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) was significant. Everyone who rode in the car noticed a difference. I'm not saying it's a bad mod. It just won't be for everyone.
RexSeven wrote: I like my MS3 a lot, but to be honest, I miss having RWD in a daily driver. I am seriously considering trading it in next year, and the 2013 Mustang V-6 with the factory Performance Package is on my shopping list (I liked it when I test-drove it). I'm also looking into the '13 Genesis Coupe with the 271hp 2.0T and the Scionbaru FRBRSZ.
I felt this way after owning the MS3 for four years. I LOVED the car but kept saying "It would be perfect if it were RWD or AWD." It was/is a great driving car. Don't get me wrong. It tracked great at VIR and embarrassed drivers in more expensive stuff. Also, the horsepower potential is rockin'.
EDIT - just saw the decision has been made. Please let us know how the relationship develops. If I didn't have a kid seat to consider I would be in some sort of Mustang now. The V6 would be high on the list considering it's excellent mpg.
In case you can't tell by my avatar, I prefer the RPM gauge myself. I like to keep my RX-7 in the "Dear God, have mercy!" range.

The CP-E engine mount I'm using actually hasn't added much vibration (after I broke it in, of course). I can only feel vibrations when the A/C kicks in while I'm idling, and even then they are weak. I'm not going to upgrade the passenger or driver's side mounts unless I decide to keep the MS3.
