Good Day!

I just bought a Sun alignment machine off craigslist. It is an eewa101a machine.

The computer boots up and is connected properly. The program seems to work correctly.

The heads do not seem to respond / communicate with the system. There are no lights on them and the buttons on the heads don't seem to control the program as they should.

The cords appear to be good (I also got a remote control box that powers up when any of the cords are connected). However, the remote control box does not control the program either.

Does anybody have any ideas or input?

Thanks!

Rob R.

Are the heads powered devices or just dumb sensors for reporting.

If the former check for a blown fuse at the bare minimum then look for board failure. All of them failing at the same time is a board that is gone or a communication bus that has taken a dump in 75% on almost everything.

The heads of a bunch of buttons on them and have a few sensors. I am not sure if that means powered or not.

I could check both of those items you listed. However, I do not know how to check for a board failure. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

It sounds like power supply problem for the heads. You will probably need schematics and maybe the ability to build a new one if needed.

I have an older John Beam of a similar vintage.

When you go through the software procedure, you should come to a point where it wants you to do the runout check on the heads. On mine, only then can you get the heads to communicate with the machine.

I did have to clean the contacts on one head as it kept losing connection.

Do you have the calibration bar and stands (assuming yours originally came with those?)?

If it is similar to the hunter I have used the sensors have to be on a car and with in reasonable alignment of each other so the beams can travel from one to the other. This is when you get signals back to the main screen that anything is actually going on. You then have to calibrate them by rotating the wheels with the sensors on the rims to zero them out. Do you have an alignment rack to go with it? It would be virtually impossible to use the hunter machine with out the alignment rack.

In reply to SkinnyG:

The reason I think the heads are not communicating is because when I go to do the runout, the button on the head that you press to complete the runout does nothing. The help menu says that it should light up a small light when the runout procedure is active.

I have been using the calibration bar and stands to try this.

Thanks for all the responses so far!

I found out a friend of mine has a John Beam(n?) of a similar type as well. I am going to take a cable and head with me to his shop to see if the head works with his machine.

Rob,

Bumping this thread back from the dead - do you still have this aligner? I bought one and it turned out the hard drive is dead - I'm looking for a copy of the original install CDs, or an image of a hard drive of a working machine.

Any chance you could help me out?

Thanks,

Isaac
