I'm assuming we have a few, yes?

Certainly the issues with ticking engines and weak transmissions are over blown?

I've read with the transmissions it's a good idea to an early fluid change to something like BG Syncro II or Redline MTL to help with rough shifting, etc? Should a guy go ahead and do the same for the Differential as well?

But that with the engine, an early oil change is a bad idea due ot some break-in additive that Ford is putting in now?

Any other known issues these cars are suffering from?

The wife has approved the purchase of a 2013 GT with the Track Pack as long as I wait a few more months.

According to the guys on the board I'm on, the tranny issue is definitely way overblown. Couldn't speak to the head-tick issue, though... to be honest I hadn't even heard about that (only head tick issue I was aware of was on New Edge Cobras).

I can't speak to the other issues, but I just wanted to say congratulations on this! ha

Nice. Day to day might prove more fun than the EVO/WRX

You going to pony up for the recaros?

^No, $1600 for seats in what will be a street car seems a bit much to me.

Yeah, I was pretty frightened at the maintenance on an EVO X, add in no dealer that regularly stocks them within 300 miles and it just seems like a bad idea. Not to mention the myriad of things to go wrong on one of those.

We have separate finances, but I'm still not stupid.

I'm still going to wait until Christmas time to do anything though.

That was the only option I clicked off when I fantasy built my GT. Everything else is just added weight.

My dream used car after some depreciation is a '13 GT 5.0 manual, but I want to let someone else click the box for Recaros and the TrackPack(Torsen/Brembo) setup. :)

Maybe in 3-4 years...

$1600 for Recaros seems like a no brainer to me. They're a $2750 option in a MINI.

Since I own a VW Mk IV, I consider the majority of car info on the internet to be little more than random dribble.

Congrats!

Can we vote her for some sort of award or free T-shirt or something?

Is it wrong that I wouldn't want the brembos on account of avoiding larger wheels?

My wife is awesome, I'm very lucky.

I haven't read nearly as much about that as I have the transmission issues. A few of them did turn out to be rod bearing issues.

Again, I'm sure that's a rare occurence....one a few engines will be messed up likely, two I'm sure there are plenty of guys just abusing the hell out of these cars.

Apparently the 5.0 ticking was only with the early 2011's. Haven't had any issues with it on the 2012's at all. I haven't seen any transmission issues here at my dealership either, but I have heard about them. BG stuff is the only stuff we use here other than Ford/Motorcraft fluids. We actually use the BG transmission fluid EXCLUSIVELY and don't even bother with the Motorcraft stuff anymore because the BG stuff is compatible with so many different transmissions. It's not going to hurt to put it in the rear end either. Just make sure they add the LSD additive as well. Did you know that using BG products in your trans, radiator, ps fluid, brake fluid, motor oil, and diff gives you a lifetime warranty on those parts through BG? When you go to the dealer, ask the service advisor for a BG warranty brochure. You'll be surprized.

Nope.

18" wheels will fit over the Brembo's.

My 2013 V-6 uses the same manual transmission type as the V-8 (called the MT82. Different gearing, though), and after breaking it in I haven't had any trouble with it. But take it easy during break-in! It will not like to be rushed until 1,500-2,500mi. are done.

The NHTSA investigated problems with early MT82s and found the main culprit was that the drivers were unfamiliar with 6-speeds. So, yeah. Despite this, Ford changed the factory MT82 fluid from 75W-90 to its DCT fluid partway through the 2012 run and issued a TSB. I would highly recommend against using another fluid for now since the DCT fluid works fine.

As for the brakes, I would spring for Brembos at some point if your car will see track days. You can find take-offs on Mustang forums.

But a lot of guys with earlier cars want those, so they are easy to sell if you want to get aftermarket wheels.

Hell, I run 20s on my daily driver Mustang with no issues.

I thought the Recaros were a decent value at $1600, and I'm cheap! Very jealous, I'm a big fan of the new 5.0 Mustangs!

PRECISELY!

I'm considering asking the dealer if he will buy them and I'll have a set of wheels/tires ready to go when I order the car.

I want to run a 19x9.5 RPF1, should work with a small spacer, save 10lbs per wheel and allow me to run 285/35/19s.

I guess I'll need to sit in a set of them, but again, this thing would only occasionally see that kind of use.

I'll still have my Miata for serious track work and spring/fall street driving.

Def. try them before you buy them. I have the Recaros in my V-6 and I love them! I'm also a small guy and have a little bit of wiggle room. I've had a few big-boned folks try the seats and they find the side bolsters are too tight.

Good to know.

On a related note, any idea when the 2014's will be released? I don't want a 2014, I'm just trying to figure out how late in the year I'll be able to order a 2013 spec'd the way I want.

Usually they cut those out around August or September if memory serves. May be sooner, I'd probably go no later than June or July just to be on the safe side.

Oh that's good, I was thinking it would be much earlier than that.

I know the 2013s have been on the lots for a few months already, so I was thinking, for example:

If the 2014s were going to hit the dealers floors in April of next year, production of 2013s would probably stop in January? Meaning you'd need to place an order a month or two before that?

Right. I'll check and see when the latest date to order the '13 Stang is... Hold up...

Looks like we're safe until at least June of 2013 to order them.
