Has anyone here swapped out the HID for LED?
Just curious.
There's no capsule that would drop into the housing and give an accurate beam pattern; best bet is to swap out the entire bulb, reflector, and lens for something designed to work together as a unit.

I understand. But has anyone done this and what were the results? The kits to do so are out there. This one is listed from a place that claims to be an Expert on Headlights. I ask because one D4R bulb is $130 wholesale.
I've bought cars that had this done, and the result is exactly what MadScientistMatt said. Odd beam pattern with hot spots and a dead area in the center in an HID projector housing. The cutoff was not great, but at least it was present. They were bright, though. This was with "good" LED bulbs. Much better after reinstalling OEM HID bulbs - got my illumination distance back, and fixed the hot spots, fortunately they had just bypassed the ballasts. My Silverado had drop in LEDs in reflector housings, there is no way to make this work well, and these housings even have glare caps. LEDs don't produce the same light source shape as a halogen bulb, and the result is horrible scatter that's blinding to everyone else. Went back to halogen and actually had more useful light on the road, and eventually did a real projector conversion.
So, marginal in a projector, and "don't be that guy" bad in a reflector housing.
